I. Problem Statement

1
You are required to design a Half Wave Rectifier (HWR) and also a filter to reduce the ripples to smooth
the output

Figure 1: Circuit 1 with 10V supply Figure 2: Circuit 2 with 5V supply

Specifications:

a. Input Signal (5V amplitude Sine wave 50Hz frequency)

b. Diode 1N4007
c. Load Resistance: 4.7K Ω
II. Objective
 Design a Half Wave Rectifier in Multisim
 Observe the output of the rectifier on the oscilloscope
 Suggest Capacitor of appropriate at the output to smooth the output (RC>1/f)

III. Equipment Required

 Bread board
 Multimeter
 Resistors
 Signal Generator
 Wire box
 Oscilloscope

IV. Theory and Background

We need a mechanism to convert AC to DC, the device
which performs this function is known as rectifier. One of
the very basic rectifier known as half wave rectifier is
designed using simple diode. This rectifier generates output
which is not DC but a pulsating DC.

This pulsating DC needs smoothening by the use of filtering

element such as capacitor, selecting proper value of the

capacitor is very important in producing the smooth output.

V. Procedure
Simulation
Simulate the circuit as shown in Figure 4 in Multisim using the values given in specification secion and
find out the the voltages across the resistor which is load resistor.
