Business Area in SAP S4HANA & SAP

This blog is focussed on usage of Business Area in Central Finance Implementation.

Traditionally SAP customer have been using business area as one of the element in transactions for
reporting purposes but with SAP S/4HANA Business Area is not supported. Customers migrating
from ECC to S/4HANA can still use it for migration purposes but any new development is not going
to happen around this space.

For SAP S/4HANA Cloud Business area is completely not supported. Now what will happen for
those customers who have business area in their present system (ECC) and they are implementing
Central Finance.

There are two possible options:

1. Replace Business Area with Profit Center by tweaking the mappings via BADi – SAP has provided
BADi in CFIN and those can be used to replace the Business Area with Profit Center

Please note that this is not possible through standard mapping scenarios.

2. When document is replicated from Source to Target the mapping action is triggered for each
object. In the mapping action setting the “Business area” can be flagged as “Clear Data” and then
the business area will not be passed to the Target system.

However, there can be more options based on customer present design and go forward strategy.
The options described above can be taken as suggestions to customer and then the design needs to
be looked upon.
