PROCEDURE TEXT

The social function of a procedure text :


To tell how something is accomplished through a sequence of actions or steps.

The text organization of procedure text:


a. Goal
b. Materials (not required for all procedural text)
c. Steps (a series of instructions oriented to achieving the goal)

Language Features :
To compose a procedure text, you will need the use of: Present Tenses (imperatives and action verbs)
e.g. : Crack an egg into a bowl.
Draw a smaller circle on colored paper.

Adjectives to form Noun Phrases


e.g. : a sma11 circle, fresh red chili, big green apples

Numbers to show the sequences (gambits of actions in order)


e.g. : 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 .....
first, second, third, .
At first, then, next , fina11y ....

A manual is a small book that consists of instructions on how to operate, do, or handle something. When
we buy electronic devices or a certain medication, we will find a manual in the package. It is important
to read the manual before operating or doing a certain action. A manual may consist of operating steps.
A tip is a piece of advice on how to do a certain thing. A tip is a key point in being successful• in doing
the thing. A manual and tip are written in the form of a procedure text. Its function is to tell how to do or
make something.
Language features of a procedure text:
1. Using a numbered list of instructions.
2. Using imperative sentences.
3. Using adverbs of sequence: first, then, next, after that, once etc.

How to record your voice on a tape recorder


 First you push the POWER button .
 Then, you put a blank cassette into the tape recorder:
 After that, you push the RECORD button and speak into the microphone .
 When you finish recording, you have to push the STOP button .
 If you want to listen to the result of your recording, push the REWIND button .
 Finally, you push the PLAY button and listen to your recording

their faeces. Here are some useful tips on how to keep away from mice:
 You can put the peppermint near wall corners.
 You can pour generous amount of peppermint oil in to cotton balls then place them around counter tops,
under the sofas in your living room.
 You can also put them behind shelves, wall corners or on the floor beneath your kitchen sink.
