Scene 1: Dewey & Anna
(Ned and Patty enter the scene, Dewey and Anna are sleeping on the stage)
Patty: Come on, Ned. Think a little bit, these two are just a couple of couch potatoes that are making
a fool out of you.
Ned: Don't you think you're being a little too harsh on them?
Patty: They’ve been living under your roof for 3 years and haven’t paid rent once. It’s about time for
you to kick them out of here!
(Dewey and Anna wake up)
Anna (protesting): Hey, hey, hey! What are you talking about?!
Dewey: Who do you think you are to say such a thing?!
Patty: I’m someone who wants justice! You’re a bunch of leeches that like to take advantage of Ned’s
good heart!
Ned: Enough, all of you! Dewey, Anna, Patty is right. You guys never pay the rent…
Patty: HA!
Ned: And Patty, I can’t just kick them out of here. They have nowhere to go!
Dewey and Anna: HA!
Patty: You know what? I’m leaving. Gonna help my mother, you know? Contribute to society a little bit,
unlike you!
(Patty leaves the scene, angrily)
Dewey: Have a nice day, Clueless!
Ned: I gotta go as well, guys. Look, I like you, but I need some help from you. It’s getting harder to pay
all the rent alone. Please, promise me you’re gonna look for a job.
Anna: Rock promise, man. Don’t worry.
Dewey: Yeah, that won’t be a problem anymore.
Ned: Thank you, guys. Bye, bye!
(Ned leaves the scene)
Dewey: Oh man, I feel bad to see Ned this way
Anna: True, he was always that generous friend. Well, that’s not much we can do, we better start
sending resumes
(The phone starts ringing)
Dewey: I’ll get it!
(He answers it)
Dewey: Hello?
Principal Mullins: Hello, is this Mr. Schneebly?
Dewey: That depends, who’s asking?
Principal Mullins: This is Rosalie Mullins, I’m the principal here at the Horace Green Prep and we’re
having a little emergency here. Two of our teachers fell ill and all the subs are already working.
Dewey: Oh, these are bad news…
Principal Mullins: You have no idea. Anyway, I was recommended to look for Mr. Schneebly and
Mrs. Di Marco, do you happen to know if they’re available to start immediately?
(Dewey looks to Anna and an idea comes to his mind)
Dewey: Yeah, they’re totally available!
Principal Mullins: Wonderful! I’ll be waiting for them at 8 o’clock!
Dewey: That’s okay. Bye!
(He hangs up)
Dewey: Anna, my dear, you can forget your resume, I just got us a job!
Anna: Really?!
Dewey: Oh yeah “Miss Di Marco”, you and “Mister Schneebly” here are being awaited at the Horace
Green Prep at 8 o’clock.
Anna: Do you think it’s a good idea? What if they catch us?
Dewey: What if they don’t?
(They look at each other)
Anna: Let’s do this!
Scene 2: Mister S. & Miss Di Marco
(Some students run back and forth on the stage. Principal Mullins comes in)
Principal Mullins: No running in the hall, mister Jones. The same goes for you, miss Diaz!
(Dewey and Anna come in)
Dewey: Mrs. Mullins?
Principal Mullins: Yes?
Dewey: Hi, I’m Ned Schneebly. We spoke earlier.
Principal Mullins: Oh sure, Mr. Schneebly. (To Anna) And you must be Mrs. Di Marco.
Anna: Yes, ma’am.
(The Principal analyses Anna’s hair)
Principal Mullins: What’s with your hair? Why so colorful?
Anna: Oh, this? It’s a… new teaching method, you know? The color helps getting the attention of the
students and makes them more focused. I’m surprised that you never heard of it.
Principal Mullins: Never heard, indeed. Anyway, thank you so much for coming so fast. We were
taken aback when we learned about our teacher’s situation.
Anna: It’s a pleasure to be here, Principal.
Dewey: Absolutely! So, where are the kids?
Principal Mullins: At the lunch break, they will be here at any minute.
(The school bell rings)
Principal Mullins: Here they come!
(The students from both classes come in)
Principal Mullins: Alright children, take your seats. I’d like to introduce you to Mister Schneebly and
Miss Di Marco, they’ll be replacing Miss Dunham and Mr. Phillips until they’re feeling better.
Dewey: You call me Mr. S., it’s easier than “Schneebly”
Anna: It’s a pleasure to meet you all. Can’t wait to get started!
Principal Mullins: I'll make you comfortable. Have a good class, teachers!
(Principal Mullins leaves. The students keep staring at Dewey and Anna)
Dewey: So, teach. Teach… teach… What do you think, Miss Di Marco?
Anna: I think that I forgot something in the car. I’ll be right back.
(She leaves the scene)
Dewey: Okay… I guess it’s up to me
(Summer raises her hand)
Dewey: Yes, Tinkerbell.
Summer: Summer. As class factotum, I’d like to welcome you to our school.
Dewey: Thank you.
Summer: If you have any questions about our schedule, I can help you.
Dewey: I appreciate your enthusiasm. But I got a hangover, so…
Tom: Does that mean you’re drunk?
Dewey: No. That means I was drunk yesterday.
Freddy: That means you’re an alcoholic
Dewey: Wrong!
Freddy: You wouldn't have come to work from a hangover if you weren't an alcoholic. Dude, you got
a disease, man!
Dewey: Okay. What’s your name?
Freddy: Freddy Jones.
Dewey: Alright, Freddy Jones, SHUT UP! You all can just chill today, we’ll start for real tomorrow,
okay?
(The students act surprised but eventually give in. Shortly after, the bell rings and Dewey and Anna
meet again)
Dewey: Thanks a lot!
Anna: I bet you were incredible.
Dewey: Yeah, yeah, just you wait!
(They leave the scene)
Scene 3: The Music Class
(The next day, Dewey and Anna get to the school but can’t find the students. They ran into Principal
Mullins)
Dewey: Good Morning, Principal
Principal Mullins: Good Morning!
Anna: Do you happen to know where the kids are?
Principal Mullins: Oh sure, I forgot to tell you this. On Tuesdays, the children have music class. As
you two got here so early, would you like to watch?
Anna: Sure!
Dewey: We would love to!
Principal Mullins: Perfect! Okay everyone, take your positions!
(The students go to their places and, guided by Principal Mullins, start playing)

Track: Horace Green Alma Mater

Scene 4: An idea
(With the end of the song, Dewey and Anna are surprised by the students' performance)
Principal Mullins: So, what did you think?
Dewey: I don’t know what to say…
Anna: Me neither, I can’t find words to describe what we just saw!
Principal Mullins: I’ll take that as a compliment. Feel free to start your classes now!
(Principal Mullins leaves)
Dewey (to Anna): Are you thinking the same as me?
Anna: If you’re thinking about a rock band, I guess we’re thinking the same!
Dewey: We can use them as an advantage and win the Battle of the Bands!
Anna: And give Ned the money we owe him so that Patty can stop pissing us off!
Dewey: Let’s get this party started, then!
(They do a high-five. Anna leaves the scene, with part of the students)
Dewey: Alright, everyone. Before we get started, let me ask you something: WHY DID ANYONE TELL
ME YOU CAN PLAY MUSIC?!
Freddy: Why would care about it?
Dewey: Because, Freddy, I thought you were all a bunch of little douchebags! But now I see that you’re
soul brothers and soul sisters.
(He points at Zack)
Dewey: You, what’s your name?
Zack: Zack, sir
Dewey: Have you ever played an electric guitar?
Zack: No sir, my father won’t let me.
Dewey: Why is that?
Zack: He thinks it’s a waste of time.
Dewey: We’re gonna change that, okay? Stay where you are.
(He points at Katie)
Dewey: You, could you come up here, please? What’s your name?
Katie: Katie.
Dewey: Katie, I see you’re familiar with stringed instruments, am I right?
Katie: Yes, sir, I play the cello.
Dewey: I’m gonna give a little challenge today. Is that okay?
(She nods)
Dewey: Great, stay right here.
(He points at Lawrence)
Dewey: Piano man, one step ahead. What’s your name?
Lawrence: Lawrence.
Dewey: Have you ever played the keyboard, Lawrence? Any techno?
Lawrence: I’m afraid not, sir. I only play piano
Dewey: That’s okay. As I can see, today will be a day of new discoveries and challenges. Oh, before I
forget, are there any drummers in the house?
Freddy: I play percussion…
Tom: That’s because you couldn’t play anything else.
Freddy: Shut up!
Dewey (to Freddy): Come here, dude.
(Freddy approaches)
Dewey: Okay, stay right here. I’ll get to you in any minute.
Summer: Mr. S.?
Dewey: Yes, Summer?
Summer: Is this all part of any project?
Dewey: Yes! It’s a new teaching method called “Rock Band”. Most schools will only implement it next
semester, but I thought it would be worth starting soon, you know. Get ahead of the competition.
Summer (suspicious): Okay…
Dewey: Give me a vote of confidence, Summer. I’ll prove you that it will be worth it.
Summer: Alright…
Dewey: GREAT! Let’s get this show on the road, shall we?

Scene 5: What is Rock and Roll about?
(Anna and her students step in)
Anna: Come on in everybody, let’s keep up the good work!
Wanda: Miss Di Marco?
Anna: Yes, dear?
Wanda: Are you sure it’s right that we’re doing this?
Anna: Of course, it is! Mr. S. and I are just thinking about what’s best for you.
Mark: But I still don’t understand why we can’t tell anything to our parents.
Anna: That’s because they wouldn’t understand it.
Alicia: And why’s that?
Anna: How can I explain this to you… Well, ever since rock emerged, there has always been someone
trying to downplay the movement. Saying it’s all a waste of time. We call them “The Man”.
Jason: But that wasn't enough, was it? After all, Rock has been around for years!
Anna: Exactly! Because that’s what Rock and Roll is all about: resistance, rebellion, make everyone
see how powerful we are! And no matter how hard they try to crush our dreams, we are immortal!
Tracy: That sounds beautiful.
Anna: And it is, Tracy, it is! I want you all to think of something that pisses you off, okay? Think and
overflow these feelings! Don’t keep them for you anymore!
George: I hate it when my parents overwork me!
Anna: That’s good, who’s next?
Wendy: It pisses me when bullies keep pushing me around!
Anna: Yeah! Keep it up!
Peggy: I’m tired of the system!
Anna: Now you’re getting it! Now you’re starting to understand!
Track: Stick It to the Man
[Anna]
WHEN THE WORLD HAS SCREWED YOU
AND CRUSHED YOU IN ITS FIST
WHEN THE WAY YOU'RE TREATED
HAS GOT YOU GOOD AND PISSED
THERE'S BEEN ONE SOLUTION
SINCE THE WORLD BEGAN
DON'T JUST SIT AND TAKE IT
STICK IT TO THE MAN

RANT AND RAVE AND SCREAM AND SHOUT

GET ALL OF YOUR AGGRESSION OUT
THEY TRY TO STOP YOU LET 'EM KNOW
EXACTLY WHERE THAY ALL COULD GO
AND DO IT JUST AS LOUDLY AS YOU CAN
STICK IT TO THE MAN

PARENTS OVERWORK YA?

[Students]
STICK IT TO THE MAN

[Anna]
HATE THE WAY THEY JERK YA?

[Students]
STICK IT TO THE MAN

[Anna]
TIRED OF THE SYSTEM?

[Anna / Students]
STICK IT TO THE MAN

[Anna]
RISE UP AND RESIST THEM

[Anna / Students]
STICK IT TO THE MAN

BREAK THE RULES, IGNORE THE SIGNS

AND COLOR WAY OUTSIDE THE LINES
GO OFF THE SCRIPT, DO WHAT YOU LIKE
THEY HATE IT, THEY CAN TAKE A HIKE
[Anna]
WHY LIVE YOUR LIFE TO SOMEONE ELSE'S PLAN?

[Anna/Students]
STICK IT TO THE MAN

Put some of it into your music!

[Students]
PISS THE POLITICIANS
STICK IT TO THE MAN
HAD IT WITH THE HIPSTERS?!
STICK IT TO THE MAN
SICK OF CORPORATE CULTURE?!
STICK IT TO THE MAN
GET UP OFF YOUR IPAD!
AND STICK IT TO THE MAN

[Anna / Students]
ROCK THE HOUSE AND MAKE A SCENE
AND CRANK THE AMPS TO 17
AND SCREAM UNTIL THEIR EARS ARE SHOT
THEY ALL CAN KISS YOUR YOU-KNOW-WHAT
DO EVERYTHING THEY EVER TRIED TO BAN
STICK IT TO THE MAN

WHEN THE WORLD HAS SCREWED YOU

AND CRUSHED YOU IN ITS FIST
WHEN THE WAY YOU'RE TREATED
HAS GOT YOU GOOD AND PISSED
THERE'S BEEN ONE SOLUTION
SINCE THE WORLD BEGAN
DON'T JUST SIT AND TAKE IT
STICK IT TO THE MAN

RANT AND RAVE AND SCREAM AND SHOUT

AND STICK YOUR MIDDLE FINGER OUT
AND WRECK YOUR ROOM AND RIP YOUR JEANS
AND SHOW 'EM WHAT REBELLION MEANS

WHY MARCH TO SOMEONE ELSE'S CARAVAN?

ESPECIALLY THOSE YOU'RE SO MUCH COOLER THAN
IT'S TIME TO THROW SOME SHIT AGAINST THE FAN

[Wanda]
Miss Di Marco?
[Anna]
Yes?
[Wanda]
We haven’t named our band yet!
[Anna]
Oh yeah! You’re right! Any ideas?
[Tracy]
How about “The Koala Bears”?
[Anna]
No, that’s too sissy
[Wanda]
“The Animals”?
[Anna]
I think that has been done already…
[Tracy]
I think I got it! “The School of Rock”
[Anna]
The School… of Rock!
And we shall teach rock… TO THE WORLD!

THERE'S NO WAY YOU CAN STOP

THE SCHOOL OF ROCK

[Anna / Students]
STICK IT TO THE MAN!
Scene 6: Dewey & Rosalie
(Dewey and Anna step in, talking)
Anna: Is everything settled for the audition?
Dewey: Yes. The instruments are tuned, the children are amazing, there’s only one thing left.
Anna: What?
Dewey: Convince the Principal to let us take the kids on a “field trip”
Anna: I thought you had already taken care of that!
Dewey: I had no time, dude! The rehearsals were in full swing!
(Principal Mullins comes in)
Anna: Well, that’s your chance.
Dewey: Wait, now?!
Anna: Oh yeah, dear!
Dewey: But what do I tell her.
Anna: Use your charm, Romeo
(She pushes him towards the principal)
Principal Mullins: Good morning, Mr. Schneebly.
Dewey: Good morning, Principal.
Principal Mullins: Is anything wrong?
Dewey: No, no, everything is perfect. I just… have a request for you.
Principal Mullins: What is it?
Dewey: Miss Di Marco and I have been talking to the children about taking them on a field trip. They’re
really hyped, already, but I needed to see with you if it was possible…
Principal Mullins: Look, normally substitutes are not allowed to organize field trips, so I don’t think it
will be possible.
Dewey: Oh, Principal, please. The kids are so excited about this, and we don’t know for how long we’re
going to stay here. I wanted to give them a good memory of our time together…
Principal Mullins: I must admit I haven’t seen these kids happy like that in ages. So, I think we can
make an exception.
Dewey: Really?!
Principal Mullins: Yes, but only this time.
Dewey: Thank you so, so much, Ros. You won’t regret this!
Principal Mullins: I know I won’t, Ned.
(She leaves and Dewey celebrates)
Anna: Should I set the wedding date?
Dewey: You can mock me as much as you want, honey. I got our audition!

Scene 7: Feeling unstoppable!

(Dewey’s class comes in)
Zack: Has anyone seen Mr. S.?
Katie: He told us he’d be late today, remember?
Zack: Oh yeah, I totally forgot.
Lawrence: So, what do you guys think about all this “Rock Band” stuff and everything?
Summer: I think it’s great! I’m learning a lot about band management!
Freddy: All of this is amazing, it’s good to get out of that plastered routine a little.
Tom: Does anyone else feel like we’re more… alive since we started all of this?
Billy: Yeah, it’s like a feeling that grows inside you!
Katie: And explodes when we make music!
Billy: Exactly!
Summer: You know what? I think we should start rehearsing something, Mr. S. will like to see us
prepared!
Freddy: Never thought I’d say that, but I agree with summer.
Lawrence: No time to lose, then! Let’s go!
Track: Don’t Stop Me Now
Tonight I'm gonna have myself a real good time I am a sex machine ready to reload

Scene 8: Dreams
(Anna’s class comes in)
Tracy: Is everybody ready for the audition?
Jason: I can’t wait! It’s gonna be awesome!
Peggy: Sometimes is hard to believe we got this far in a few weeks.
Wendy: True, it will be so sad when Mr. S. and Miss Di Marco leave.
Mark: But they can’t leave!
Wendy: They’re substitutes, Mark. They will stop teaching us someday.
Wanda: But there’s no need to suffer, now. All we gotta do is give our best and make them remember
us!
Alicia: And who knows, maybe we'll meet them out there in the music world!
George: Yeah, I don’t know about you guys, but I don’t want to be a lawyer anymore! I wanna be a
guitarist!
Wanda: I thought I was the only one! I wanna be a singer!
Peggy: Maybe we can all start a band in the future
Jason: I bet nobody would stop us!
Tracy: You’re right, no one!

Track: We Will Rock You

Scene 9: The audition
(The students enter scene)
Dewey: Come on everybody, hurry up!
Anna: Speed up or we'll be late!
Summer: Calm down, you two!
George: Yeah, these instruments are heavy!
(The promoter comes in)
Promoter: Woah, who are you guys?
Wendy: We are The School of Rock!
Zack: And we’re here to the audition!
(The promoter looks at Dewey and Anna, looking for approval)
Dewey: You heard the kids!
Anna: No time to lose!
Promoter: Alright then, follow me.
(Everyone takes their positions)
Promoter: Whenever you want!
Anna: Alright everyone, like we rehearsed!
Dewey: 1, 2, 3, 4!

Scene 10: Scam discovered
(After the audition, everyone is celebrating. But that's when Patty and Ned enter the scene)
Patty: There you are, you filthy liars!
Dewey: Whoa, whoa, whoa, why all this anger?
Patty: Don't play dumb now, we figured out your scheme!
Ned: Don’t make this harder, guys.
Billy: What’s going on, Mr. Schneebly?
Dewey: Nothing, Freddy. Everything is fine!
(Principal Mullins comes in)
Principal Mullins: What is going on here?
Patty: Are you the principal?
Principal Mullins: Yes. Who are you?
Patty: My name is Patty Di Marco, and this is Ned Schneebly. These two here are a pair of impostors!
Dewey: Ros, I can explain!
Ned: There’s nothing to explain, Dewey! Just admit it!
Anna: Even you, Ned!
Jason: Impostors?
George: Dewey?
Summer: All this time… You were lying to us?
Wanda: The rock band was a lie too?
Principal Mullins: “Rock Band”, what are you talking about?
Dewey: Alright guys… I’ll tell you the truth… My true name is Dewey Finn, and she’s my friend, Anna
Johnson.
Anna: We took this job pretending to be Ned and Patty because we needed the money. But that was
before we met you, kids.
Dewey: You changed us. When we saw how talented you guys are, we totally forgot about it.
Anna: We’re sorry to lie to you… But you need to know that nothing we did together was false or a lie.
Principal Mullins: That’s enough, the two of you! Get out of my school before I call the police!
Dewey: But, Ros…
Principal Mullins: I won’t say it again!
(Dewey and Anna leave the scene, sadly. Followed by Ned and Anna)
Summer: You can’t fire them, principal!
Principal Mullins: Excuse me?
Lawrence: She’s right! You have no idea how everything they did was good for us!
Principal Mullins: I don’t need you to tell me what is good or not! Now, if you excuse me, I have a
school to take care of!
(Principal Mullins leaves, angrily)

Scene 11: We cannot quit now!
Zack: I can’t believe… This was all for nothing!
Wendy: They made us believe we had something special…
Katie: Just so they make some money.
Lawrence: That’s not true! Everything we did, we did together! There were no lies in our music!
Freddy: Shut up, dude!
Lawrence: Make me!
Freddy: You wanna fight?!
Summer: If you touch him, I stick your drumsticks in your throat! Lawrence is right! We worked hard,
and for too long to give up right now. Yes, they may have lied to us in the beginning. But look how far
we came, everything we accomplished! We cannot quit now!

Freddy: We came to call you to the Battle, duh!
Wendy: Yeah, what are you waiting for?
Anna: Look, kids, I don’t think this is a good idea…
Dewey: Anna’s right. Sorry for fooling you and make you believe in our impossible rock dream.
Zack: Hey man, you two taught us a lot, okay?!
Katie: Never let anyone crush our dreams!
Tracy: Never give up!
Alicia: And stick it to The Man!
Lawrence: We understand you didn’t want to make us feel bad. But we can’t forgive you unless you
fulfill this dream with us!
(Dewey and Anna look at each other)
Anna: What do you think?
Dewey: What if they catch us?
Anna: What if they don’t?
