Speech by Rainer Treitz

European Brand Manager Omega
at the Zafira OPC presentation and driving event
in St. Tropez, France, October 2001

The spoken word is binding

Ladies and gentlemen, a warm welcome to this event on Chart mit Namen und Funktion
the Côte d’Azur.
Of course, the star of today’s show is the new Zafira
OPC. Detailed information on this sport van will be
presented to you by Volker Strycek and Manuel Reuter
after my own remarks.
However, we also wish to take the opportunity of Foto/Zeichnung Motor
acquainting you with the Omega for the current model
year, in particular the version with the new six-cylinder
inline diesel engine.
This features common rail direct injection and is clear
proof of Opel’s intensive, ongoing model improvement
and the way we have succeeded in keeping the Omega
up-to-date over the years.
The Omega B was launched in May 1994. Beautyshots Omega 94,
einschließlich Innenraum
But take a closer look at the current Omega model and Beautyshots Omega 02,
you will see that it has almost nothing in common with einschließlich Innenraum
the one introduced in 1994.
I believe that in the long history of Opel there has never 750.000 Exemplare des aktuellen
been a car that has undergone such consistent Omega gebaut
improvement and development as the current Omega.
And its success proves us to be right: we have already
sold more than 750,000 of these cars, including about
100,000 units of the Omega’s sister-model, the Cadillac
Catera.
Even after a thorough update of the Omega in the fall of
1999 we continued to invest in our top model, as I can
confirm by reference to current 2002 model year.

The most important novelty I have already mentioned:

the 2.5-liter common rail direct injection diesel. With this,
a second diesel engine has now joined the Omega family
alongside the 2.2 DTI. This fact is of particular
importance since the share of diesels in new-car
registrations continues to rise in the upper midsize
category. It was 30 percent in 1998, but has now
comfortablypassed the 40-percent threshold.
The 2.2 DTI has already contributed a substantial boost
to Omega diesel sales since its market launch over a
year ago.
The new engine, which– like the previous 2.5-liter turbo • hochmoderne Technik

Ladies and gentlemen, I am convinced that when taking
a closer look at the current Omega model and, in
particular, when driving it, you will agree with me that this
car is up to date from a technical and visual point of view
and that, taking into account the cost aspect, it
represents an outstandingly attractive offer in the upper-
class car segment.
Now I would like Volker Strycek to take the stage. If you
