Omega 2000: Confident Styling Echoes Technical Refinement

• New high-torque ECOTEC 2.2 16V engine

• Optimized DSA chassis for excellent road-holding
• Dual-zone, electronic climate control system standard
• Active Head Restraints reduce risk of whiplash injury
• Ten-year anti-perforation warranty
• Top-of-the-line model with 5.7-liter V8 engine next year

Rüsselsheim. The new edition of the Opel Omega goes on sale this fall. The
German manufacturer’s significantly revised flagship-model features new
exterior and interior design, as well as state-of-the-art technology. The
highlights include a new 106 kW (144 hp), 2.2-liter gasoline engine. With
maximum torque of 205 Nm it develops more pulling power than any other
base motor in its class. Opel engineers have also further improved the
Omega’s suspension, the much-acclaimed, rear-wheel drive, DSA (Dynamic
Safety) chassis now providing even higher levels of ride and road-holding.

Active Head Restraints are standard on both front seats, while passengers in
every Omega variant will feel the benefit of an intelligent electronic climate
control system. This offers separate controls for the driver and co-driver as well
as a dual-zone sun sensor. When another new feature, the Air Quality Sensor
(AQS), also registers petrol or diesel fumes in the ambient air, it automatically
switches to air recirculation. The top-quality character of the redesigned Omega
sedan and station wagon models is reflected by a new ten-year anti-perforation
warranty.

An Omega V8 with a 5.7-liter, aluminum engine will extend the range next year.
Drivers of this top-of-the-line model will have a power-output of 228 kW (310
hp) and maximum torque of 450 Nm at their disposal.

Opel invested around DM 300 million in the new-edition Omega which will meet
the public for the first time at the Frankfurt International Motor Show (IAA) in
September. The investment encompassed the replacement or redesign of more
than a third (3000) of the car's individual components.

Robert W. Hendry, Chairman and Managing Director of Adam Opel AG: ”With
the extensive redesign of the new Omega, we are underlining our commitment
to Opel’s long-standing, important role in this demanding market segment.”

The confident exterior styling echoes the Omega's technical refinement. The
front view is dominated by new, transparent headlamps and a new hood with
prominent, V-shaped contours and an integrated, chrome grille. The bumpers
and the side-protection moldings are color-keyed. The rear of the Omega
features new tail lamps and the sedan has a modified trunk lid which can be
opened using the remote-control key or from inside the car. Aerodynamically
optimized, electrically-operated exterior mirrors and new wheels – 15, 16 or 17-
inch, depending on the trim level – round off the new Omega's appearance.

The spacious interior combines first-class comfort with a high level of

refinement. Synthetic materials with a pleasant ”soft-touch” surface and
exclusive upholstery with flat woven fabrics complement the quality finish. To
achieve maximum ease of use, the steering wheel, instrument panel and center
console have been completely redesigned. Details like the integrated power-
window switches in the new door trim, two storage bins in each of the front door
panels and a new center armrest with integrated box contribute further to driver
convenience.

The year-2000 Omega is offered with a new entry-level, gasoline engine

producing 106 kW (144 hp). This 2.2 16V ECOTEC unit (equipped with two
counter-rotating balance shafts for smooth, quiet operation) develops
particularly high torque of 205 Nm at 4000 rpm. This is almost ten percent more
torque than its 100 kW (136 hp) predecessor.

The new four-cylinder unit powers the Omega from zero to 100 km/h in just
10.5 seconds and accelerates from 80 to 120 km/h in fifth gear in 15 seconds.
The top speed of the Omega 2.2 16V is 210 km/h. An additional, primary
catalytic converter guarantees extremely efficient exhaust treatment, enabling

the engine to meet the stringent German D4 emissions standard. The Omega
2.2 16V consumes only 9.4 liters of gasoline per 100 km.

At the upper end of the range, the Omega is available with a choice of two
ECOTEC V6 gasoline engines – a 2.5-liter unit with 125 kW (170 hp) and a 3.0
power-plant with 155 kW (211 hp). For the diesel market Opel offers two turbo
engines in the Omega, a 2.0-liter, direct-injection, ECOTEC DTI 16V with 74
kW (100 hp) and the 2.5-liter straight-six (96 kW/130 hp).

The rear-wheel drive, DSA (Dynamic Safety) chassis – which has received
widespread acclaim – has been further enhanced. Changes to the front-axle
geometry and new damper and steering settings have resulted in significant
improvements in ride, agility and road-holding. For enthusiastic Omega drivers,
Opel also offers a special sports chassis with modified spring/damper settings
and 235/45 R17 Michelin Sport tires.

A newly developed ”Quick-Power” brake booster provides the Omega with

additional braking power. The system recognizes when the driver hits the brake
pedal fast, automatically increasing the speed of hydraulic pressure build-up to
shorten the braking distance.

The new Omega comes with a wide variety of standard safety features
including two front and side airbags. The front seats feature new Active Head
Restraints, first introduced by Saab. In the event of a rear collision, the
restraints move forward and upward to cushion the backward motion of the
head, significantly reducing the risk of whiplash-related injuries.

The Omega station wagon also features an Additional Load Intrusion

Avoidance System (ALIAS). The two folding rear seat-backs are fixed together
securely to offer passengers even more protection against loads moving
forward in the event of a frontal collision.

Early next year, the Omega will be available with an airbag system that
recognizes when the co-driver’s seat is occupied, in which case, the front and
side airbags on the passenger-side are activated. If the seat is unoccupied or if
an Opel-FIX child seat with transponder is installed, the airbags are
deactivated.

In-car communication is another area in which the Omega sets new standards.
A user-friendly double-DIN slot houses a choice of modules, all of which can be
operated by steering-wheel remote control. Audio systems with integrated
mobile telephones are equipped with ”hands-free” microphones. They can be
ordered with Opel's telematic service, ”OnStar”, which is already available in
Germany and the United Kingdom. The optionally available navigation system
with its top-class audio system uses the multi-information display in the
instrument panel where, in conjunction with the optional color monitor, it can
depict detailed road maps. Using the Radio Data System (RDS) Traffic
Messaging Channel (TMC), Omega drivers receive up-to-the-minute traffic
information in short text format. If required, the navigation system offers
alternative routes to avoid traffic jams or other hindrances.
