For some people, the ideal holiday is to get away from their normal routine by
staying in a hotel or camping in the countryside. Others prefer to stay at home
and do things they do not normally have time for. Do you think the benefits of
going away on holidays outweigh its drawbacks?

Answer:

People have different views on how to enjoy the holidays. While some people
would like to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life by travelling to
somewhere, others choose to stay at home and try to do new things. In my
opinion, it would be better to stay at home and try new things as travelling has
many disadvantages which overweigh its advantages.

Travel is expensive. Although there are ways to travel for less, it will be far
trickier without money. Indeed, most people have to scrimp and save to fund a
trip and there is normally not a lot when they get home. It is not easy to handle.
You look at your friends who have worked the whole time, they are buying cars,
houses and doing cool things while you have barely a penny to your name. You
can stay at home instead and try to do things you do not normally have time for
to enhance your knowledge and keep yourself in the loop every time.

Another drawback of travel is that it may be tiring and disappointing rather than
boost your mood. Travel can be tiring considering all the crowded tourist
attractions and polluted air of them. In addition, there is a syndrome called Post-
vacation blue. When felling stressed or depressed, people want to travel to
escape from the reality and improve their mood. After a teething period, they
become too immersed in the luxurious places and the easy life during the
vacation. When they get home, it is easy for them to feel alienated and on the
outskirts as they were out of the loop for too long. As a result, travel appears to
be more detrimental than healing.

Last but not least, travel has a lot of negative impacts on the environment.
Firstly, travelling by plane can leave a big carbon footprint. It is one of the main
reasons for the increasing numbers of greenhouse gases, which leads to global
warming and other issues that can affect directly our lives. Secondly, a huge
amount of trash is dumped by tourists travelling to tourist attractions every day.
We love to see the wonderful unspoiled beaches, but we are spoiling and
destroying them at an alarming rate. Those places will be definitely better off
without humans.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that although travel have some advantages, it is a

more detrimental way to enjoy you your vacation than staying at home and try
new things.
