ABSTRACT
This is a case study comparison of two coffee shop that researchers
observed to evaluate what is the similarity and differences of the two observed
coffee shop. The researcher will be providing information about a coffee shop and
particularly to the furniture and design should have in a coffee shop. The case
study consists information about the design and performance of each chosen
coffee shop. The researcher will be presenting materials such as photography and
diagram of two coffee shop to show the design and performance comparison. The
result of two coffee shop is almost identical both in design but not in performance.
It is hoped that this case study will provide the comparison of each two coffee shop.
INTRODUCTION
What is coffee shop? According to Nathan Myhrvold (2002), a coffee is a
beverage brewed from the roasted and ground seeds of the tropical evergreen
coffee plant of African origin. Shop is a place to buy things usually stores
(Cambridge Dictionary). A coffee shop is a kind of a small restaurant that serving
coffee, tea, sandwiches, and other light snacks, such as muffins, desserts, soups
and pastries. It tends to be more like a restaurant in some countries. They will
serve tons of hot and cold foods with a steaming cup of coffee, together with the
possible option of serving alcohol.
The purpose of the coffee shop does sometimes take on the purpose of the
center of society. Your visit could be to meet up or gossip with your friends, do
some works, read a book, entertain, or simply to just pass some time. It can be
one place that will be a great meeting ground. You will find many things in the
coffee shop in the name of creativity. You may be able to do stand up or many will
have readings or art displays; it can be a wonderful place for some much need
inspiration.
In this case study, researcher's required to visit two coffee shop for the
design problem to observe the two coffee shop and connect their observations in
the design requirements that be given to architecture students. The researchers
need to build a design that will cater the growing needs of the community which
will give an aesthetic place for the customers.
The Coffee Project is a garden-inspired coffee shop brought by Manny
Villar because he loves flowers and gardens, Coffee Project gives a relaxing and
inviting feel with its stunning interiors utilizing a bunch of flowers turned into floral
chandeliers, and greens that create a happy and vibrant mood. Way back 2014,
Coffee Project opened its first branch at Starmall Alabang, Muntinlupa. Serving
good quality concoctions of espresso based drinks and mouth-watering food,
Coffee Project aims to provide excellent coffee and gracious service creating
memorable experience for people. Besides the Coffee Project’s high quality
service and best tasting food and drinks, the interior of each branch is exceptional,
granting them an extra edge among others. The place itself is a reason enough to
drop by. Every coffee outlet of Coffee Project is filled with flowers and greens to
create a happy and vibrant mood among customers. They used mood lights and
comfortable seating pieces to create a sense of personal space for each customer.
There are areas for the individuals who are just passing the time, long tables for
those who may have a meeting, and comfortable sofas for groups who are just
hanging out. With its extraordinary concept, their valued customers consider
Coffee Project as the most Instagram-worthy coffee shop.
Starbucks originally started in 1971 by Jerry Balswin, Gordon Bowker, and
Zev Siegl, with its first shop located in Seattle's historic Pike Place Market. From
this location, Starbucks sold high-quality whole coffee beans, dark-roasted in small
batches, the European way. The Starbucks logo is also inspired by the sea –
featuring a twin-tailed siren from Greek mythology. Today, Starbucks are privileged
to connect with millions of customers every day with exceptional products and
more than 30,000 retail stores in 80 markets internationally. In 1981, Howard
Schultz (Starbucks chairman and chief executive officer) had first walked into a
Starbucks store. From his first cup of Sumatra, Howard was drawn into Starbucks
and joined a year later.
In 1983, Howard traveled to Italy and became captivated with Italian coffee
bars and the romance of the coffee experience. He had a vision to bring the Italian
coffeehouse tradition back to the United States. A place for conversation and a
sense of community. He left Starbucks for a short period of time to start his own Il
Giornale coffeehouses and returned in August 1987 to purchase Starbucks with
the help of local investors.
From the beginning, Starbucks set out to be a different kind of company.
One that not only celebrated coffee and the rich tradition, but that also brought a
feeling of connection.

CONCLUSION
Coffee shops have become an integral part of modern society, and finding new
and creative ways to connect the public with a source of caffeine is challenging
architects and designers. Not every cafe and coffee shop needs to be constructed
on a large scale in order to be iconic and unique. These small-scale coffee shops
have popped up the world over, combining fantastic design and creative aesthetics
to create one of a kind experiences for their customers.
By relating this study to the site that has been given to the researchers, the
researcher therefore conclude that the coffee shop at the corner is an excellent
place to start the day, which makes it central to the public. All sorts of people
working or living around visit it regularly to meet friends and begin their day or to
relax when they are having rough day with an aesthetic and a functional place to
hangout.
