Items Stipulated As Criteria in the Article Analysis
For the article analysis assignment, the students need to
a. identify the issue in a text
b. identify the argument/author’s point of view in a text c. recognise the types of supporting details in a text as well as any flaws in reasoning if any d. evaluate the supports used in a text:
i. relevance and/or consistency
ii.objectivity iii.completeness iv.validity and credibility
e. make inferences and draw conclusions
f. identify the assumptions/ the stated main ideas and/or formulate the implied main ideas g. identify instances of inductive and deductive reasoning in a text h. determine an author’s purpose, i. determine an author’s tone, j. determine an author’s intended audience
Note:
a, b, c d and e are compulsory items.
The assignment of 600 to 800 words must include items a, b, c d and e and at least 3 items from, f, g, h, i and j.
