INTRODUCTION

Nowadays leadership is an important element and it is necessary to mobilize a group to achieve
a success in an organization. Quality and leadership characteristics can be learned, even though
there are some individuals are born with those characteristics. There are several definitions that
are linked to leadership intentions. This is because leadership concepts are usually used in
various fields. Among the definition of leadership, it is the process of influencing employee
behavior in achieving the vision and mission of an institution (Furnham,2005). Not only that
leadership is centered on the situation of the situation as well as the skills of the leader as well as
focusing on the characteristics of behavior that can distinguish between leaders and followers. It
is no wonder that leadership became a major subject in the 20th century (Northouse,2015).

There is no doubt that leadership leaders who have such leadership characteristics can mobilize
an organization smoothly. Each leader needs to have that feature to become a quality leader. First
honesty and integrity are an important element of a leader. If a leader is honest, then his
followers also become credible and honest in every matter. Nursing profession really emphasizes
the aspect of humanism because every treatment centers on people and this affects leadership
(Sellgren et.al,2006).

Second, confidence also plays an important role in a good leader. To be an effective leader a
leader should have high confidence to ensure the following subordinates and subordinates to
follow your instructions. If you are unsure about your own results and qualities, your
subordinates will not follow any instructions and what you say. As a leader, you have to cultivate
yourself with confidence, showing courage and firmness to get your respect for your
subordinates. In addition, this does not mean you have to be too confident, but at least you need
to reflect the level of confidence needed to ensure your followers trust you as a leader.

|
Third, a good leader also always inspire others. The most difficult thing for a leader is to
persuade others to follow. It will only succeed if you inspire your followers by giving a good
example. When things get hard, they look at you and see how you react to situations. If you
handle them well they will follow you. Even as a leader you should be able to think positively
and this positive approach can be seen through your actions. you need to stay calm under
pressure and keep the level of motivation. As John Quincy Adams said, "If your actions inspire
others to dream more, learn more, do more and more, you deserve a leader." If you have
managed to inspire your subordinates, you can easily overcome any current and future challenges
easily. This feature should be in every quality leader.

Fourth, commitment and passion is the element seen by subordinates in a leader. They see
you if you have a deep interest in everything you do about work and to them. If you want them to
give you good results then you should also be passionate about them.If your teammates see you
do not do something serious then they too do the same thing as you. If your passion gives them
the spirit then they will also give you the best work. In addition, it will also help you to get honor
your subordinates and instill new energy in your team members, then they can do better. If they
do not feel fully committed or lacking in spirit, it will be a great task for leaders to encourage
your followers to achieve their goals.

Fifth, a leader with good communication skills. It is important for a leader to have good
communication skills between a leader and employer. As a good leader, you need to inform and
communicate your plans and strategies to your team. Not only that you need to inculcate them
with a variety of positive words to achieve your goals and your strategy. It's very difficult for
you to get your results if you do not practice good communication skills. Overall if you do not
succeed to deliver your message effectively to your team then you cannot be a good leader. A
good communicator can be a good leader. Words have the power to motivate people and make
them do unimaginable. If you use it effectively, you can also achieve better results. Even
communication is the key to success in many things. If there is a failure in communication then

|
your employees will not understand your mission, goals, and vision. Communication should be
consistent when creating job expectations or providing constructive feedback. With great
communication, your employees will have a broad understanding of what they are doing.

Sixth, a good leader will expert with this decision-making capabilities skills. A leader should
have the ability to make the right decision and at the right time. This is because the decision
taken by the leader will have a profound effect on the people specifically on subordinates. A
quality leader should think long and deep before making a decision. If they have decided a
decision, then it should proceed as well. Although most leaders make their own decisions, it is
strongly recommended that leaders discuss with others who are also more important before
making decisions. After all, subordinates are people who will benefit or suffer from the decision
made by a leader.

Seventh, accountability also is the main role in leadership qualities. A leader should use the
approach highlighted by Arnold H Glasow when he says, "A good leader takes a little more than
his share of the offense and a little less than his credit side." A leader needs to make sure every
subordinate is responsible for what they are doing. If they do their job well, give them
compliments and encouragement and support back but if they show less satisfactory results a
leader should make them aware of their mistakes and cooperate with they have to improve
themselves. A quality leader also needs to remind them to be responsible for their actions as well
as to create a sense of responsibility among your subordinates. If this is done by a quality leader,
then they will work more seriously.

|
Eighth, delegation and empowerment. As a leader, you do not necessarily have to do
everything yourself and not necessarily what you are doing right. So you have to do it by
delegating the task to your subordinates and at the same time, you focus on your main job. By
delegate on the assignment then all work can be prepared and subordinates are nurturing their
responsible nature. A quality leader also provides them with all the resources and support they
need to achieve the objectives and give them the opportunity to bear responsibility.

Ninth, In addition to all these qualities, the quality of creativity and innovation is also
needed by a quality leader. This is because through this qualification a leader can create a
comfortable space in the working area. There are several things that differentiate between the
head and subordinates. According to Steve Jobs, the most in-depth of our time answers this
question in this way, "Innovation distinguishes between leaders and followers." To move
forward in today's fast-paced world, leaders must be creative and innovative at the same time.
Creative thinking and ongoing innovation are what makes you and your team stand out from the
crowd. Think of the boxes to generate unique ideas and make the ideas and goals come true.

Tenth, not all leaders have this feature. This feature is one of the features that play an
important role if the subordinates respect the leader. The character is empathy. A good leader
will put himself in the shoes of his subordinates. Most leaders are now practicing dictatorships
and ignoring the quality of empathy. As a result, they have failed to make a closer relationship
with their subordinates. Understanding your followers and pain is the first step to becoming an
effective leader. Even if that is not enough that you work hard and give your followers a suitable
solution to the problem. A leader needs to apply the quality and value in themselves so they will
be respected by their subordinates for being a person who understands. A leader with a
supportive quality will have their staff expectation and it will be one of the key success in the
organization and job satisfaction among nurses (Lewis&Mathews, 1998; Upenieks, 2003).

DISCUSSION ON THE STRENGTHS OF THE SELECTED LEADERS

|
I have worked in the medical ward of Raja Permaisuri Bainun Ipoh Hospital and I am very
fortunate to be led by Sister Mohana at the time. Not surprisingly, with the quality of leadership,
she has now become a matron at a hospital in Kuala Lumpur. She is a very empathy over the
condition of the staff below. For example, in 2014 I was suddenly ill and she gave me some
relaxation for the holiday so I was fully healed. He was not like my next sister who did not
understand the situation as well as the welfare of her staff. After she exchanges to HKL, I got a
new sister as my head. When I faced the same problem she forced me to work even when the
situation did not allow at that time. What I learned was empathy very necessary in a quality
leader because when we do so, our subordinates will respect and tolerate each direction we give.

Not only that leader with a good quality should also have a character such as good
communication skills. This kind of character is obvious to my boss. It can be transmitted
through her way of reprimanding her staff. For example, I have just worked in the ward and don't
know how to carry out a transfusion of plasma procedure. When she saw me need her help she
immediately came to teach me every step carefully while advising me to learn carefully
regarding every step in the procedure. If I am willing to learn that it would be easy and I will
never make mistakes later. She also advised me to always respond in anything when doing every
procedure.

Besides that, I am very impressed with my boss because she is very confident in everything
she decides and doing. Furthermore, she is very competent in doing every procedure instead of
she is very confident in solving problems and making wise decisions. My leader using a type of
autocratic leadership. Through this kind of leadership, it will make the subordinates respect and
follow every direction. In addition, my leader plays a role as a leader and it is important to ensure
that organizational goals can be achieved as well as to help improve self-esteem in leadership.

|
She is also a good leader. This is because she always equips herself with knowledge. In
addition, she also enhances her personality and appearance. It directly makes herself
respected.

Even being a leader is not only becomes an example to other staff but also shares every
problem faced by the organization and is responsible for solving the problem. In addition, all
the qualities of a quality leader can be adapted and this will make it easier for her as a leader to
influence others to equally help achieve the goals of the organization. Finally, a good leader is
not only good at giving directions but also planning to get involved in realizing what she has
planned with herself and her always able to be a source of reference if there are problems that
occur among her subordinates.

In addition, my sister is always ready to provide opportunities for promotion or further

education. She always gives her support and encouragement to her staff to further her studies
and increase her knowledge. This indirectly provides exposure to the nurse to become a leader
either by emulating the attitude of the leader.

Besides that, my sister also gives an opportunity to nurses who have long served to carry
out responsibility as a leader in order to exhibit the abilities at the same time that she is
teaching the way to have the confidence to demonstrate that ability. Not only that, but she also
provides the opportunity for every nurse to be actively involved in organized activities at the
hospital level such as organizing activities such as giving lectures by every nurse in relation to
patient care. Through this kind of exposure, we can see personality and self-esteem in delivering
information effectively and how it can affect others.

|
Among other examples of my head, she continued her mentor-mentee traditions so that the
learning and monitoring process always took place. Not only that she also continued to award
excellent awards to every excellent nurse in handling the assigned tasks. Finally, my boss is also
encouraging participation in writing or research on nursing.

DISCUSSION ON THE IMPACT OF LEADERSHIP ON NURSING PROFESSION AND

HEALTHCARE SYSTEM

IMPACT TO ORGANISATION

Among the benefits gained in the organization is to reduce the grievances or discomfort of
the patient and the family towards the nurse. For example, in the past, various untrained nurse
stories have been shared by the patient. If the head nurse and board body and nurse associations
play their role firmly all such grievances and grievances can be reduced altogether. In addition,
the good name of the organization can be enhanced because it has a skilled, knowledgeable
and effective staff. There is also a report stating that the effect of nurse's limited participation in
decision-making can affect their work and working environment as well as the cost of the
organization in terms of distrust of hospital management and anger resulting in increased stress
among nurses (Blythe J, Bauman A & Giovanetti P, 1997).
Beside through this can reduce the rate of infection rate statistics in hospitals because of
the care provided by the nurses in accordance with the Standard of Procedure and they also
monitor which is meticulous during the treatment of patients. Not only that hospital
performance can also be improved when engaging in the hospital and ISO audits as having
leaders in each unit to ensure that the ward has been structured to achieve sustainable goals.
IMPACT TO NURSES

|
It is undeniable that leadership has a profound impact on the nursing profession and the
healthcare system. This is because a quality leader can improve the quality of mobilizing an
organization. The organization's ability and failure are all formed from a leader. So a leader
needs have the qualities of leadership to improve the efficiency of an organization. Among the
impact of leadership is satisfaction in working. It should be emphasized that nurse ward
perceptions about their relationship with nurse leaders are essential for job satisfaction. Nurses
illustrating their relationship with the nurse manager as a supportive, co-operative or advocated
report will have a high level of job satisfaction. Meanwhile, nurses who express their relationship
with manager's nurses as negative relationships will experience work disruption. Thus the
relationship between nurse nurses and nurses will affect their length of work as well as the
quality of patient care (Chiu et al, 2005; Kotzer et al, 2006; Roberts- Turner et al, 2014 Bryne
and Martin, 2014; Lin et al, 2015).

In addition, the knowledge of nurses can also be improved. This is because they have the
leader as a reference and can receive all the guidance from a leader to further their work. Not
only that they also get the opportunity to turn to the highest level of education. Nurses have the
opportunity to increase their knowledge. Nurses also become more responsible for the duties and
care given to the patient as well as directly making them a professional through the exposure and
supervision performed by a leader in the ward.

Furthermore, it also enhances the quality of their work confidence. By having a clear
organizational goal and needs to be achieved, then the nurse will feel more confident with the
work done. Self-confidence can also be formed when recognizing references to other sources. It
simply adds the existing skills available to nurses. Even they can manage time properly and do
not feel stressed when dealing with a bustle in the ward because of the existing leadership criteria
in themselves and this can also be an example to other nurses and can boost teamwork.

|
IMPACT TO PATIENT

Not only is the organization and the nurse the effect is also visible to the patient. The patient
feels more confident with the care given by the nurse because it has the head who constantly
monitor the level of their wards of salaries. Not only the patient's stay in the ward can also be
reduced due to the effective treatment because every nurse teaches things that cannot be done.
Lastly, the patients will also be appreciated and easy to cooperate with the nurses to take care
of them. Kanter (1993) also notes that work-culture theory is a concept consistent with the
nursing care process and can be logically expanded to support nurse interaction with patients and
this will result in enabling nurses to provide the best care practices for their patients. it will
produce optimal patient outcomes (Shamian J & Lightstone E, 1997).

CONCLUSION

The role of a leader is important to ensure that organizational goals can be achieved while
helping to improve self-esteem in leadership. To be a good leader, to improve ourselves with
knowledge, to improve personality and self-esteem so that we are respected. Being a leader is not
just an example to other staff but to share with each other the problems faced by the organization
and to be responsible for solving these issues. In addition, if we succeed in applying these criteria
then it facilitates us as a good leader and can influence others to help us in achieving
organizational goals. Good leader are not only good at giving directions but are well-informed
and he is together in realizing what has been planned and is a source of reference in the event of
a problem.
