Universal Design for Learning (UDL): GimKit supports student learning by allowing students to answer
questions at their own pace. Though it is a timed activity, it is not as high pressure as Kahoot because
questions repeat giving kids a chance to try again until they get it right. Additionally, students can be put into
teams wherein scaffolding can take place. Those higher achieving students can help those who struggle or be
an example as they answer questions correctly. GimKit can also be set up for different countries meaning it is
a multilingual tool as well, which is especially helpful for ELL students.
Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
The teacher will create a set of questions from the content standards being addressed that day. At the start of
the day, the teacher will set the students up into teams and inform them that they will be playing a game to
warm up their brains and get them ready for all the information they will learn that day. At the end of the
day, the teacher will have students back in the same teams and have them play again with the same
questions – having now taught the lessons applicable to those questions. This will help the teacher see what
may need to be reviewed and what students truly grasp from the day. It is an easy formative assessment that
is fun for students.

Student Response and Assessment Tools
☒ Assess prior knowledge ☒ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☒ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☒ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☐ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):
Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity: Students will be put in teams to answer warm
up questions for the lessons they are about to learn, and in the same teams will answer those same questions
after the lessons pertaining to those questions. The session will last no more than 5 minutes each time, to
provide ample time to answer all questions while not taking up too much instructional time. Materials needed
are simply the tools being used to answer questions, whether it be a computer or mobile/handheld device.
Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):
☒ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☐ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☐ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response
If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):
How will the data be used? The teacher will analyze student data to determine what subjects need more
work and which are being understood. The teacher will also use the information to determine which students
are excelling and which may need additional help.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. I never considered using an SRT as a warm-up activity
to assess prior knowledge. However, I think using it in this way and revisiting the activity after the lessons
provides additional data for the instructor and reviews everything for the students without it being a
monotonous or overbearing task. My hope is that it will be a fun way for students to be introduced to topics
and a fun way for students to review those same topics.
Reflective Practice: In extending this lesson idea, I would certainly be able to apply other technological tools
utilized in prior lesson ideas. As this tool is specifically used as a warm-up and warm down, the lessons
themselves have so many avenues they could take. In practice, this couldn’t be used every day; but it would
certainly be fun at the start of major units or as a class reward after more difficult units.
