Starter 1

Unit 1 : Look at me

1. Please read the title, and the theme, ask questions and use TPR ( Can you Run / Dance/ Jump
/ Eat / Drink water / Sit Down / Stand Up etc.?)

Ask the student to look at the parent/ prop in your hand etc.

2. Look at the picture, what can you see? How many boys are in the picture? let's count ( circle
1 boy and say 1, circle the second boy and wait for 10-15 seconds for the student to understand
and start counting, if not please continue circling and counting the boys) and How many girls are
in he picture?( Do the same step as for the boys), Lets read the blue and orange sentences(try to
encourage the student to fill in the sentences, but if not it's ok, you can just read them with
them), delete the pencil and ask Where are they? at the park, or at home? If the student
doesn't know the answer, ask Where are you? At School, or at home?

3/4. Circle the house, ask What is this? What's the color of the house?, circle the flowers one by
one, ask What are these? How many flowers can you see? What's the color? Circle the Sun, ask
What is this? What's the color? Can you see the Sun?(only if the student is capable to
understand), delete the pencil, reveal the word, repeat 2 times, circle just the hand with the
pencil,ask Can you draw? Do you like to draw?(use TPR)

5/6. Circle the boy, ask Who is this? circle the hat/scarf, ask What is this? What's the color? Do
you have a hat/scarf? Circle the Sun, ask What is this? Is it happy or sad?(use TPR), reveal the
word, repeat 2 times, delete the pencil, circle the hand, Ask Can you paint? Is this a pencil or a
paint brush?(if the student can understand), Can you paint? Do you like to paint?

7/8. Circle the girl, ask Who is this? Circle the dress, ask What is this? Do you have a dress?
What's the color of your dress? etc. Use TPR to dance, ask What can she do? Can you dance? Do
you like to dance? reveal the word.

9/10. Circle the boy's head, ask Who is this? Circle the school bag/ backpack, ask What is this?
What's the color? Do you have a school bag/ backpack? What's the color of your school bag/
backpack? Use TPR, ask What can he do? Do you walk to school/Do you like to walk?

11/12. Circle the girls, ask Who are they? How many girls can you see? Use TPR, ask What can
they do? Can you jump? Do you like to jump(on the bed)? circle the sofa, ask What color is
this? If the student can understand, ask Where are they? in the living room, or in the
bathroom? Where are you?

13/14. Use TPR, repeat the word, use examples with TPR, say I like ice-
cream/pizza/mommy/daddy etc.
15/16. Use TPR, repeat the word, use examples with TPR, say I can walk/ dance/ draw/ paint.

17/18. When you finish the exercise, ask What can yo see in the picture? Circle the house, ask
What is this? What's the color of the house? Circle the students, ask How many boys/girls are
in the picture?

19. Circle picture by picture, ask Who is this, What's the color of the his/her shirt/dress? What
can he/she do? Ask the student if they want to read the lesson together or by themselves, if
they do not understand just start: Read the text Line by Line with the student repeating.

20. Ask the question, underline possible answers in the top right corner, ask the same for all the
verbs, let the student circle the answer and say it.

21-23. Use number flash cards and ask the student to read the word and check the correct
answer. If the parent demanded for the student not to use the pencil, write number 1 and 2 in
front of the pictures and with flash cards ask the student to say the correct answer.

24-26. Ask the student to read the sentence and circle the correct answer. If the parent
demanded for the student not to use the pencil, write number 1 and 2 in front of the words and
with number flash cards ask the student to say the correct answer.

27. Circle the pictures, use number flash cards and ask the student to match and read the
sentences. If the parent demanded for the student not to use the pencil, write letters A, B and C
in front of the words and ask the student to say the correct answer.

28-30. Ask additional questions only if you have too much time left in the class.

28. Circle the pencil, ask What is this? What's the color of the pencil? Do you have a pencil?
( you can use props)

29. Circle the children, ask How many boys/girls are in the picture?

30. Circle the girl, ask What's the color of her dress? Is she happy or sad?(Use TPR)

31. Underline the first/second etc. sentence and ask the student to read the sentence, and find
the letter of the picture and write it in the little bubble.

32-36. Ask the student to retell the story, by looking at the pictures. Help the student with 32-35,
and then ask the student to retell by themselves on page 36 (help them if need be).
