This document is made for the purpose of retro-feeding concepts of wave physics and
electromagnetism, to determine parameters and general characteristics of electromagnetic
waves, using concepts and mathematical methods for the solution of application exercises,
using concepts and mathematical methods for the solution of application exercises

Solución of the 5 quistiones

1. What is an electromagnetic wave?

It is the simultaneous disturbance of the electric and magnetic fields existing in the
same region.

2. What is electrical permittivity ε and magnetic permeability μ of a medium?

the electric permittivity ε o:It is a physical parameter of materials that describes

how much is affected by an electric field. The information of the electric field is
contained in the vectors E and D, where E is the intensity and D is the electric
displacement or electric flux density

magnetic permeability μ :it is to the ability of materials, means or substances to

affect and be affected by magnetic fields, as well as the ability to become
sources of these, that is, ability to create them without the need for external
currents.

3. In a vacuum, what is the value of the electric permittivity ε o and the magnetic
permeability μo ?

the value of magnetic permeability μo is:

F
ε o=8.8541878176 … ×10−12
m

the value of magnetic permeability μo is:

μo =4 π ×10−7 T .m . A−1

4. From the following wave equation:

(
E y ( x , t )= A sen ( wt−kx )= A sen 2 πft−
λ )
x =C 1 sen ( C 2 x 10 3 t−C 3 x )

where C 1 , C2 and C 3correspond to the last 3 digits of your identification, calculate:

a. Amplitude A .
the last 3 digits of your identification: 595

where C 1=5 ,C 2=9 C 3=5

C 1 sen ( C 2 x 10 3 t−C 3 x ) =5 sen ( 9 x 103 t−5 x )

g. Direction of travel.
Polarization direction.

Conclusions

Conclusion 1: it is concluded that a wave is a periodic disturbance in space time layers

of propagating an energy

Conclusion 2: the permittivity can vary with the position in the medium, the frequency
of the field applied, humidity, temperature, and other parameters. In a nonlinear
medium, the permittivity can depend on the strength of the electric field.
