Fabric Mask Pattern

Materials: • Tightly woven cotton fabric

• Two 7.5in strips of ¼ inch flat elastic

*Make sure to wash and dry your fabric to ensure that it will not shrink after sewing.*

With right sides together, cut a 7in x 9in

rectangle, on the fold.

On the wide, unfolded end measure 2.5in

from either side and mark using a water
soluble pen.
With the folded side towards the top,
sandwich one piece of elastic into the corner
and pin.

Pin the other end of the elastic to the bottom

corner, ensuring that the elastic is flat and not
twisted.

Repeat on the other side.

With a ¼ inch seam allowance, sew from the
top, folded side, stopping at the mark made
earlier. Repeat for the other side.

You may have to gently pull the second

corner as you sew in order to keep everything
laying flat, as the elastic will cause the fabric
to bunch up.

Trim the ends of the elastic and any thread

strings.
Turn right-side out and iron.

Position the mask vertically, so the elastic

bands are on the top and bottom. Find the
midline of your mask (A).

Measure half an inch from the midline, on

both sides and (using a water soluble pen)
mark (C and D).

Measure again, this time two inches from the

midline on both sides and mark (B and E).

Rotate the mask and fold line B to line C,

creating a pleat. Iron and pin.
Repeat with lines C and D.

Topstitch around entire mask (¼ inch seam

allowance).

Trim all excess thread and remove any marks from your water soluble pen and your mask is
finished!
