Student Samples: “Selfie Organizer”

For this assignment, students were asked to create a central idea statement based off of the
article “This is Why Your Nose Looks Bigger in a Selfie” by Smithsonian.com, and sourced from
Newsela. They were also asked to find three pieces of textual evidence to support their central
idea.

Meets

Why: This student correctly crafted a central idea statement and provided three pieces of textual
evidence, first in quotation form and secondly in their own words. This student met the
assignment goal on the first try, as there are no “circles” present on his sheet.
Partially Meets

Why: This student in the end met the goal, but upon first turn in, they partially met. This student
was able to create a correct central idea statement, but was unable to find all three pieces of
correct evidence. This is what qualifies it as partially met. In the end, this student’s grade
reflected a full meets, because they fully met the expectations through corrections.

Does Not Meet

Why: Throughout the corrections process, this student went from Does Not Meet, to Partially
Met, to Meets. Their grade reflected a full meets, because they fully met the expectations
through corrections. It began as DNM. As seen in the image, this student missed all but the
beginning information and one piece of evidence, this qualified the work as DNM. Throughout
the corrections process, this student was able to add several pieces at a time, as seen by the
different colored pens and checked off circles.
