Philosophy Statement
Belief Statement 1: At Lindee’s Spot for Littles, we value children’s natural intrinsic drives to
learn about and explore their world. Children are naturally curious and deserve ample
opportunities to explore and deepen their curiosity. We value seeing the whole child. We
understand that children have needs, such as physical and emotional needs, that must be met
before natural exploration can be truly impactful. Here at Lindee’s Spot for Littles, children will
be given many opportunities to explore interests and developmentally appropriate topics
through child-centered learning activities.
Belief Statement 2: At Lindee’s Spot for Littles, we believe that children learn best by hands on,
first-hand experience. We believe that through intentional teaching, teachers can enhance
children’s learning by determining each child’s Zone of Proximal Development (Crain, 2011). In
other words, teachers can determine what tasks or teaching concepts are challenging but
achievable for each children’s unique individuality. Lev Vygotsky believed that children’s
development is affected equally by nature and nurture, especially when they are young,
therefore we must be considerate of children’s biological needs. He believed that children learn
best when teachers extend activities just beyond children’s current level of understanding, but
not so far beyond that the children lose interest (Crain, 2011). Similar to Vygotsky’s beliefs, at
Lindee’s Spot for Littles, as children naturally explore, we extend their learning little by little.
Belief Statement 3: At Lindee’s Spot for Littles, we work with children as unique individuals,
each with their own personalities and learning abilities. We regularly assess each child,
recording their capabilities and improvements in each developmental domain. We record these
assessments by writing down notes and capturing photos. We use these assessments as our
guide to get to know the children further and plan appropriate, relevant, and interesting
lessons for the children. In other words, the children will decide their own curriculum that we
will provide in engaging ways.
Objective 2: My assistants and I will meet the needs of the individual children
when they arise, as best we can. For example, a child comes to preschool and
seems grumpy because he did not wake up in time for breakfast. To meet his
need, we will provide him snack earlier on in the day and later as needed.

Objective 1: The children who attend Lindee’s Spot for Littles will be explorers in
the variety of preschool activities, including large and small groups and child
selected activities.
Objective 2: The children who attend Lindee’s Spot for Littles will show, through
words and actions, understanding of new concepts. For example, a child will
remember to water the garden after learning about seeds need water and
sunlight to grow.
Objective 2: After preschool my assistants and I will review daily records to help
individualize our teaching for each child. We will discuss our findings and
observations from the day and identify new or deepening interests of the
children.
