Describe what paraphrasing is and show how to reference it within an essay

Paraphrasing is when you rephrase the content into different words, keeping the meaning the same
but using different or similar words. Re-structuring can also be used when paraphrasing.
Paraphrasing can be referenced in the same way as the original text, with the authors name and
year. This still works as the information in the text is the same, meaning that the name and year is
still present.

Describe how to show direct quotations from an author in an essay

To quote from an author in an essay, you need to use the exact words. This is because those are the
words that have been said and a quote is to back up a point, changing the words would mean that
you are changing and lying over a written fact. The quote needs to be blended into the sentence,
meaning that if your quote is not relevant then it isn’t needed, unnecessary quotes are a waste of
time as it does not back up any point. In the sentence, you should add the authors name as it is their
words so they need to have the credit, it also shows that you have researched and it backs that up.

Also describe how to cite from an article with more than one author

When there is more than one author, you can include the names of all the authors and separate
them by commas. You do this for the first quotation, after that you simply write the first author and
follow their name with et al.

If you are citing a longer piece of information how would you present it

To present a long piece of information, you can reference the place where it is from, the page
number and obviously the author and year. This is so that you save time by not having to re write
the whole section and it doesn’t take up space on the essay. You would present it as follows, (Book,
year, page).

Show how you would reference if the auther is anonymous

If you cannot find the author, you can cite them as Anonymous. This is because it shows that you
have at least looked into it. You would then continue with the date/year.

Show how you would reference information taken from a discussion, interview or lecture

When citing from a verbal source, you would cite the person speaking, followed by the date and the
subject of discussion.

Show how you would reference information taken from an online source

When referencing online material, you would start with the author, year of publication, article title,
the website link. This is to show where you found the information a lot easier.
