CONJUNCTIONS

Conjunctions are words that connect other words, phrases, or clauses together.

I like driving and racing, but I don't like wearing a helmet.

Using conjuntions, you are able to form elegant, complex sentences and avoid making many
short sentences.

We make a difference between three groups of conjunctions: coordinating, subordinating and

correlative conjunctions. Before we list and explain those conjunctions, we need to understand
the difference between coordination and subordination.

COORDINATION

This is a concept that allows you to combine short independant clauses 1 into a single sentence.
When applying this concept, we need to make sure that the clauses we want to combine are of
equal value, i.e. balance of elements of semantic value in the sentence.

COORDINATING CONJUNCTIONS

We have exactly seven of these conjunctions and it's very easy to remember them. Just
memorize the acronym FANBOYS. Coordinating conjunctions are FOR, AND, NOR, BUT, OR,
YET, and SO.
