Re. providing historical context:

SOURCESSSS - I get from your sources na you mainly used books already discussing the historical
background of urban planning BUTTT mas maganda if maglagay ka ng sources specific to the time period
(a more holistic discussion na hindi directed lang towards urban planning)

These are books that discusses the colonization process as a whole

Spanish Period:

- Blair and Robertson. Primary sources yan. There’s a thorough discussion naman on reduccion

American Period:

- A War of Frontier and Empire (Silbey)

- The Americanization of the Filipinos (Perdon)
- In Our Image (Karnow) - meron ka na nito right??
- The Filipino Reaction to American Rule (Salamanca)
- Mixed Blessing (McFernon)
- The American Occupation of the Philippines 1898-1912 (Blount)
- Motherless Tongues (Rafael)

Japanese Period:

- Rising Sun Blinking: A Boy’s Memory of the Japanese Occupation in the Philippines (Lacambra)
- Blood on the Rising Sun (Marquez)
- The Kempei Tai in the Philippines (Syjuco)
- Shadows from the Rising Sun (Marquez)
- The Philippines Under Japan (Jose)
- The Fall of the Philippines (Morton)
- Escape to Manila (Ephraim)

Re. Baguio as a special case:

You can find a lot of sources available online about American efforts in Baguio (Dean Worcester

VERY IMPORTANT TO DISCUSS LAND GRABBING AND/OR LAND REFORM VIS A VIS THE PLIGHT
OF INDIGENOUS PEOPLES
A veryyyy good source with a comprehensive discussion on how land reform and urban planning
(the 18 degree skwatter thing) evolved into a call for Cordillera autonomy: Discourses on
Cordillera Autonomy (it’s a relatively thin book)

June Prill-Brett

“…sanitizing consciousness and criticism towards policies that point toward the rampant
exploitation of labor and resources for the sole benefit of America and the continued deplored
state of the country and edifying further the role of America as a liberator and bringer of
democracy that justifies its Manifest Destiny towards the colonized…” - William Henry Scott and
Arun Jones (you can find him on Jstor) are very good sources on how Americans succeeded in
colonizing the north
(Igorot Responses to Spanish Aims, In Defense of the Igorot, etc)
