SUMMARY OF ANDE-ANDE LUMUT (NARRATIVE TEXT)

Once upon a time, there were two kingdoms in Kahuripan. They are Jenggala Kingdom
which is ruled by King Jayengnegara and Kediri Kingdom ruled by King Jayengrana. They are
asked to unify their kingdom by the ancestor King Airlangga. They decided to do a marriage of
their descendant, Prince Asmarabangun (son of King Jayengnegara) and Princess Dewi Sekartaji
(daughter of King Jayengrana).

One day, Jenggala Kingdom was attacked by enemy. The war was so fierce and could
danger Princess Sekartaji’s life. Then, she run away far from the kingdom. She arrived in a
village and changed her identity to Kleting Kuning to protect herself. She lived in a widow’s
home named Nyai Intan and her three daughters. They are Kleting Abang, Kleting Ijo and
Kleting Biru. Nyai Intan and her daughters turned out into evil ladies. They treated Kleting
Kuning rudely. They made Kleting Kuning to do all the housework alone.

However, Prince Asmarabangun had defeated the enemy in the kingdom. At the moment,
he realized that his wife disappeared. He asked his body guards to look for her. They went for a
few days, then returned to the palace with a news. They had not found the princess but they saw
a girl who looked alike princess working as a maid. Prince Asmarabangun decided to disguise as
a handsome and rich man looking for a wife to attrack his wife come to see him. He went to
Dadapan village near Bengawan Solo river which was right across the village where Kleting
Kuning lived. He stayed at a woman’s house named Mbok Rana and changed his name into
Ande-Ande Lumut.

Kleting Abang, Kleting Ijo and Kleting Biru were happy to hear that news. They decided
to go there and wore their best clothes. They wanted to marry Ande-Ande Lumut. However,
Kleting Kuning had no intention to go with her sister. She loved her husband only. Then she
went to wash their clothes in the river. She met a crane and give her a whip. A crane asked
Kleting Kuning to go to Dadapan village because her husband was there. She returned home and
prepared herself.

Meanwhile, her sisters had reached the river bank but they could not across it. The found
no boat there. Kleting Abang saw a huge crab creature floating the river. Then they asked the
crab to help them acrossing the river. The crab named Yuyu Kangkang. Yuyu Kangkang agrred
but they had to kiss him as a reward. They kissed Yuyu Kangkang because they really wanted to
meet Ande-Ande Lumut. Finally, Yuyu Kangkang took them across the river.

A few minutes later, Kleting Kuning arrived at the river bank. Yuyu Kangkang gave her
the same offer just like her sisters but she refused it. She hit the whip to the river and made Yuyu
Kangkang scared. Then, Yuyu Kangkang took her free. She arrived to Dadapan village after her
sisters. Ande-Ande Lumut did not choose on the three sisters because they gave their kisses
easily to Yuyu Kangkang. He chose Kleting Kuning as his wife. Meanwhile, Kleting Kuning
recognized him as her husband then she turned herself into a beautiful princess. They returned to
Jenggala Kingdom with Mbok Rana and lived happily.
