Present Perfect Continuous

We use Present Perfect Continuous:

1. Actions started in the past and continuing up to the present.


It has been raining all night. (It’s still raining)

2. Past actions of certain duration with visible results/effects in the present.


He has been fixing his car. (You can see his dirty hands)

3. Emphasis on duration of an action using for, since or how long


a) How long have you been working here?
b) I have been working here for seven years. (We are in 2016)
c) I have been working here since 2009. (We are in 2016)
