Global Issue Reflection

Investigating the world and being globally aware is important. It influences people's

views, their values, and their worries and fears. Earth and its precious life is taken for granted.

There are many issues in the world and it's nowhere near to how it was before. The Earth is

slowly dying from all the harm that humans have created. The Global Issue I have chosen is

water pollution and water shortage. This is one of the major problems that is damaging Earth

economically. I consider this problem one of the worst because most people aren’t aware of it.

People aren’t doing anything about the issue.

Many people view water pollution and water shortage as a serious problem. There have

been multiple cases where all of California was in danger of shortage of water. California has

been suffering from the drought for years now. During the time, many people and myself started

showering in less time. Taking long showers was one of the ways water was wasted the most.

Sprinklers were also another reason water was wasted. Homeowners, parks with fields, all had

their sprinklers running for long periods of time. A sprinkler can use up to 13 or 16 gallons of

water per minute.

Although it was affecting all of California , Water pollution and water shortage is also

affecting the whole world. There are many countries in the world that are afraid of this issue. For

example, Mexico has been very concerned about the lack of water for agriculture. In 2010 it was

so serious that the government released an advertising campaign warning Mexico that they may

run out of water. 81% of the country is not able to use tap water. It is not as safe and most water

is contaminated before reaching the route to the tap. Symptoms from drinking the water are

nausea, vomiting, and fever.

In the United States, most of us are fortunate enough to have access to clean water

whenever we please but we do take it for granted. People that have to fight for that privilege

know how important water really is in a person's everyday life. We as humans can’t survive

without clean water and neither can Earth's ecosystems. We must take action and seek solutions

to stop all of the pollution. Here are some things you can do in your household to help prevent

water pollution and wastage of water; take shorter showers, don’t use sprinklers, reduce your use

of plastic bottles, and don’t use toilets as waste disposals. The waste disposed in toilets go into

the sewage and into the ocean. This pollutes the ocean and will cause harm to animals. We as

humans need to take care of our home, we need to take care of the earth.
