Encouraging Young Men to Sing
This is a reading session of high school and middle school music for male voices. Members
of the ensemble will present a piece to the audience, speak to its characteristics, teaching,
techniques, etc.... then the choir will perform each piece in the reading packets for this
session, Music is graciously furnished by Ryan Blauyelt of J.W. Pepper.

Les Hommes
Les Jommes is an ensemble of 12 singers dedicated to the performance of choral music for men's
voices and the promotion of men singing. Formed in 2010 as an informal opportunity for musie
teachers and singers to enjoy a choral experience during the summer, the ensemble scheduled an
‘end of the summer concert and continues to sing and perform. Les Hommes can be heard at the
CSUEB Men’s Chorus Festival on February 3, 2012 and with the Mt. Eden Chamber Singers and
the East Bay Singers at Mission San Jose in Fremont at 8p on Sunday March 18, 2012.Alexander Bonner is from Hay ard, California, He has been singing for thirteen years and teaching young singers

Buddy James, founder and artistic director of Les Hommes, is Associate Professor of Musie at CSU East Bay where
he serves as Director of Vocal and Choral Activities. A lifelong advocate of men’s choirs, he isa board member of
Intercollegiate Men's Choruses (htp//www.imei.us/) and was the founding conductor of the Men's Chorus at the
University of Southern California (now named The Apotto Chorus) and co-founder of Men in Blague at UC trvine.

Ben Jobns finished his master’s degree in Choral Conducting in 2009 at the University of California, Irvine and
holds undergraduate degrees in Dance, Vocal Performance, and Chemistry. Ben sang in the Chanticleer ensemble
for three years before moving to his current postion as Chanticleers Director of Education. His education duties
include, but are not limited to, directing Chanticleer's LAB Choir and giving free master classes to Bay Area high
school and middle school choirs. Mr. Johns also teaches voice privately and continues to sing professionally as a

yael Morales graduated from UC Irvine in 2009 with honors in stage direction, and is currently working on a
post-baccalaureate degree in music from Sonoma State University, studying countertenor with Ruth Ann Swenson

Michael Najar joined the faculty at Palo Alto High School as teacher of Choral and Vocal music in 2003. AC Palo

Mark Tuning is a choral director, educator and tenor soloist from Oakland, CA. He serves on the faculty of the
Conservatory of Vocal and Instrumental Arts (a public K-8 charter school) in Oakland, CA, teaching choits, brass
and jazz ensembles. He is Dieector of Music for Mount Diablo Unitarian Universalist Church in Walnut Creek, CA,

Bruce Whitener graduated from CSU Easthay (formerly Hayward) with a Bachelor of Ants in Voice, He sang with
the Loring Club ~ @ men’s chorus - in San Francisco and currently performs with the Bay Area Chamber Chott

Delaware and a BLM. in Composition at San Francisco Stale University. He is a member of the American Choral
Directors Association (ACDA) and currently serves on the California Music Educators Association (CMEA), Bay

Intercollegiate Men’s Choruses
Since its founding in 1915, Intercollegiate Men's Choruses, Inc., A National Association of Male
Choruses, formerly the Intercollegiate Musical Council, has striven to promote quality men’s chorus
singing and music. Its membership is made up of Male Choruses/Glee Clubs of the nation's universities,
colleges, and secondary schools, Associate Membership is also open to interested individuals, community
and professional ensembles.
Through its publication QUODLIBET, and through its biennial National Seminar held on a member
campus, IMC provides a wealth of information pertinent to conductors of male choruses. National
Seminars include performances, reading sessions, interest sessions and sessions geared toward the student
conductor.
