* The elaborate radish sculptures represent saints, musicians, buildings,
animals, mythical creatures, human figures and much more.
* The festival also features concerts around the city, fireworks, float parades
and light shows.
* The participants for the festival register months in advance so that there are
enough radishes grown for all the contestants.
* The radishes are specially grown for the event using fertilisers and chemicals
and are harvested only a few days before the festival. They are later
distributed to the artists who start carving three days before the festival.

OVE erm UACNew Map of India
* The Government of India has
released a new political map of
the country after the formation of
two new union territories on
31 October 2019.
The State of Jammu and Kashmir
was restructured and divided into
two, as the Union Territory of
Jammu and Kashmir, and the
Union Territory of Ladakh.
The new political map was drawn
to depict this bifurcation.
* The government abolished the law
that gave special status to Jammu :
and Kashmir (J&K) and passed a het
new bill to bifurcate the state into eran

union territories.
Under the special status, which was earlier given to J&K, those living in
the state were governed under a separate set of laws as compared to
other Indian states.
Jammu and Kashmir will no more be recognised as a state of India.
This is for the first time in the history of India that a state is being converted
into two union territories (UTs).
* With this restructuring, India now has a total of 28 States and 9 Union
Territories.

The 9 UTs of India are: Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Daman
and Diu, Dadar and Nagar Haveli, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh,
Lakshadweep Islands and Puducherry.
India’s First Standing Wheelchair

an affordable price.

differently abled person requiring a
wheelchair to shift from a sitting to
standing position, and vice versa,
independently and in a controlled
manner.
* With adjustable and adequate safety
features, it is found to be stable even
on an uneven terrain.
* It provides more access for the differently abled people to move, and allows
them to stand, minimising health problems due to prolonged sitting on
conventional wheelchairs.

* Atop the rock sits the ruins of an
ancient city, whose walls are adorned
with colourful frescoes. It is a popular
