I used Direct Method for first grade in Junior High School.

Direct Method is a method of

teaching foreign language without use of mother tongue, without translation and without
study of formal grammar. Students should learn to think in the target language as soon as
possible. Vocabulary is acquired more naturally if students use it in full sentences, rather than
memorizing. The purpose of language learning is communication (therefore, students need to
learn how to ask questions as well as answer them). Direct method helps learners to acquire
correct pronunciation, it provides better understanding, time Saving, it provides better fluency
of language, and no gap between active and passive vocabularies. But, in direct method there
is no use of mother tongue that makes students difficult to understand.

In applying Direct Method for teaching english I will take the material about days in the
months. The Material is for first grade of Junior High School. As we know, in teaching
english the students must try to listening and speaking about something based on the material
in order to improve their language skills and increase their knowledge. I will use Direct
Method and help the students to improve speaking ability through listen explanation about
the material and then, they should know how to ask question as well as answer them. First, I
play a video about days in the months that can make students easily to know what days in the
months are. Afterthat, I will explain and remind the students days in the months in
accordance the audio, so the students can remember it well.

The teacher introduce the topic or theme of the lesson by using a video clip that lasts about
one and a half minutes and after that, the teacher will re-explained the material from the
video.

Then, the teacher has previously provided some numbers which there are questions from each
of these numbers. The teacher will call students one by one to choose one number and the
students will get an opportunity to answer those questions.

Finally, students can re-explain the material that has been delivered by the teacher and can
practice or apply it in daily activities such as conversation and dialogue
