● Great job using language that the kids understand
● I loved the questions after you sang your song.
● I liked how you had them clap the steady beat...maybe have them continue that as they are
singing it
● Quite a few of the kids didn’t sing the correct pitches the first time...if it’s not right, don’t move
on
● You might have the students singing keep patting the beat while the “leapers” are doing that
movement, just so they can be moving, too.

Repetition with the song
Ask the question you want them to answer and then sing the song
“As I sing the song can you figure out the character in our song?”
“Listen as I sing again and see if you can figure out where our frog lives”
“As I sing one more time can you figure out what we used to get our frog out?”
Love that you are on their level the whole time
Demonstrate and ask for the voices that you want to hear.
Nice Stong Confident
Make sure that starting pitch is where and what you want.
Keeping the beat during the song-Nice
Question: How do you keep the students not participating in the game engaged?
Love how you adapted leapfrog into this lesson and have all students engaged.

What is the concept or focus of your lesson? Was it to introduce a game? Sing? Socialize?

Great job of speaking kindly to the kids and introducing yourself
Played frog in the meadow
Asked questions- Leading questions,
Gave kids something to do- pat legs (helps kids to not have behaviors)
Correct kids when pitches do not match on (Out)
Taught kids the game and where to leap

(Prepare for the kids who are not perfect)- What would your plan be if the kid purposely jumped on
another student or was not participating correctly) Always be ready when something may go wrong

Maybe move the rows back and have more spaces between so students can jump and have room
just a few inches between

Madison,
I am so excited for your future as a music teacher! My favorite thing from your teaching was how
prepared you were. You had clearly thought through this lesson. You did your best to make the most
of every minute you had. Also, even though you had limited time, you chose to speak kindly and softly
to my students, at their level, if they ever needed help or more specific instruction. I really
appreciated that! Those kinds of interactions are what make students want to do their best for you.

After looking through the feedback and hearing it at the workshop I hope you now have so many
great ideas of how to make your lesson even better if you were to do it again. I also hope that you
have a better understanding of how children respond to you and your lessons instead of how your
peers do. It’s different! It’s unpredictable! And it’s a great reason to continue seeking out
opportunities to be in front of students.

I want to extend a personal invitation to you to come work in my classroom any time you can get
down to Wichita. I’ll give you all the time I can in front of my students! Just shoot me an e-mail or a
text and we can set something up. (316-761-6936)

You are the future of music education! Keep up the good work!
