DESIGN PROJECT ON NATURAL GAS PROCESSING

1. Given a stream containing 15% ethane, 20% propane, 60% i-butane and 5%
n-butane at 50°F and atmospheric pressure, and a flow rate of 100lbmole/hr.
This stream is to be compressed to 50 psia, and then cooled to 32°F. The
resulting vapor and liquid are to be separated as the two product streams.
Using HYSYS, show the process flow diagram (PFD), the flow rates and
compositions of these two streams.

2. A water-saturated natural gas stream is fed to an amine contactor.

Diethanolamine (DEA) at a strength of 28% wt in water is used as the
absorbing medium. The contactor consists of 20 real stages. The rich amine
is flashed from the contactor pressure of 1000psia to 90psia to release most
of the absorbed hydrocarbon gas before it enters the lean/rich amine
exchanger. In the lean/rich exchanger, the rich amine is heated to a
regenerator feed temperature of 200oF. The regenerator also consists of 20
real stages. Acid gas is rejected from the regenerator at 120 oF, while the lean
amine is produced at approximately 255oF. The lean amine is cooled and
recycled back to the contactor. Use the information provided to model the
process using HYSYS.

The feed streams are stated in the Tables below:

a) DEA to Contactor Feed Stream
b) Sour gas material stream

c) Separator Design Connections

d) Absorber column (DEA contactor) design connections & requirements

3. Make a General block flow diagram for mercury removal by adsorption on

solids. State clearly all the equipment/materials required and their role in the
process.
