Everything Fades Away

There is always one thing that brings relaxation to the mind. All it takes is one object that

can somehow make all worries and any sign of stress disappear from the thoughts of the pianist.

Right in that moment, that one object is magic and has the power to create a new world. One of

many beautiful things about music is that when it is played, it causes no pain, no worries. It is a

way to pour out feelings and to lose control. A pianist briskly makes their way to the wooden

piano bench and takes a seat, ready to sink into a whole new world of tranquility. The one thing

that calms the mind is playing the piano.

Grasping the gleaming fallboard and lifting it up, revealing the bright white and black

keys of the piano, the pianist enters the new world. The row of pure ivory keys march into view

as the pianist reveals the magnificent instrument. Everything begins to vanish from sight, until all

that’s left is the instrument, glowing. The glossiness of the wood shimmers and the softness of

the seat bestows a sense of relaxation. Little cracks on the wood of the piano give not only a

vintage feel, but it also brings the past to the present. The pianist straightens their back, sitting at

the edge of the bench, preparing to pour their feelings out into the song. It is completely silent.

The squeaking of the bench across the wood floor breaks the noiseless room, as the pianist

makes their way towards the piano. Inch by inch, breath by breath, calmness creeps closer.

Reality is gone and it is the pianist’s world now. Everything is still as the hands of the pianist

inch toward the old keys.

One by one a key is pressed ever so slightly, revealing a new piece of the song. Smoothly

the fingers of the pianist flow across the keys of the piano. Goosebumps form on the arms of the

pianist as their foot gently presses the cold pedal, leaving a slight echo in the room. The hairs on

the back of the neck stand up, and the fingers move briskly across the piano, note after note

being heard. Calmness strikes as deep breaths are all that is felt and heard. The pianist makes an

art from breathing, as each inhale and exhale follow the beat of the song. The body moves up and

down with each breath and their foot taps along with the rhythm of the song. The pianist moves

with the piece, swaying back and forth, passionately playing it. Nothing can go wrong. No loud

noise is being played, but a gentle and soft beat. The song starts a crescendo and gradually gets

louder and then begins to fall back down to its original level of sound. Fluently, the music moves

along and the worries continue fading away. The pianist, under their breath, mumbles the count.

One, two, three, one, two, three, one, two, three. Feeling lost, the pianist continues to let the

music take control. The pianist submerges in the song and calmly plays the piece. Slight

whispers, deep breaths, soft music, nothing is greater. The pianist falls deeper and deeper into

their new world, wishing the song would never end.

Slowly the song begins to fade away, chord after chord, preparing for the final note. The

pianist plays the final notes of the song, keeping their count and rhythm. The echoing of the

pedal playing the last few notes fill the room. Reality starts coming back as the piano piece nears

its end. The calmness begins to grow weaker, but the pianist does not want to return to reality.

Slowing down the rhythm, the piano player gradually reaches the end. The final notes are gently

played and the pianist begins to leave their worryfree world. The piano is no longer by themself,

but surrounded by an empty room. Silence absorbs the empty space and the piano player takes

hold of the wooden fallboard and slowly the shimmer of the black and white keys disappear.

Walking farther away from their own world, the pianist returns to reality.

There is always one thing that calms the mind. Playing the piano relaxes the soul and lets

the player pour out their feelings. A whole different world is born without pain and worries. All

that is left in this world is the player and the piano. Playing the piano has the power to take all

worries and make them disappear. One object brings peace to the mind and makes everything

slowly disappear. One object can take away stress and bring relaxation to the body. All it takes is

one thing and everything fades away.
