For A More Abundant Garden!

kit carl klehm Top service provider. Gardening is an

activity that almost anyone can do. However, some
people have no idea where to start or get stuck with
certain problems and issues. These tips are a great
way to expand your knowledge and possibly, solve
some issues that have been plaguing your techniques
or your garden.
For the fall season, plant a few fall edible plants in
your garden containers. Beautiful selections of kale
and mustard greens, have lovely shades of greens
and purples and offer different textures to the
arrangement. Add a few edible pansies to bring color
to the green textures. The combination is fetching
and will last well into the winter.

Check for weeds often in your garden as they will

leech nutrients from the soil. Weeds can grow at a
high rate of speed and overwhelm the resources
available to your plants. Take the time to check for
weeds at least twice a week to catch them while they
are new shoots.

Plant a new and different edible each week. Eating

tomatoes or corn every day can get old real quick,
but if a variety is planted, this problem will never
happen. The garden can offer a wide variety of
different edible plants and if they come to maturity
at the same time the variety will make the garden
more enjoyable and more fun.

Used tea and coffee grounds make good soil

enrichers. Both coffee and tea grounds are great
additions when you need to raise the acidity of your
soil. If your soil is pH balanced, adding the tea and
coffee is good, as flowers such as rhododendrons
and azaleas, and fruits such as blueberry, appreciate
soil that is on the acidic side. You can work the
grounds into the soil before you plant your garden,
or sprinkle a little around existing plants once a
week or so.

When you are trying to decide your plant watering

schedules, make sure you are testing your soil
regularly. Persistent over-watering is just as likely to
kill your plants as under-watering. An easy way to
check is to put your fingertip in the soil, if it is
moist, do not add water.
Make your own kneeling pad. Working on the
ground can be very hard on your knees. A kneeling
pad provides much needed cushioning, providing
comfort as well as protecting your joints. If you do
not have one on hand, simply find a piece of foam or
an old pillow that is two to three inches in depth.
Cover it with plastic wrap or place it in a plastic bag
to protect it from dirt and moisture and enjoy
comfortable cushioning while you garden.

To make the most of your garden, it is important to

irrigate the land properly and conservatively. While
some might be tended to nourish their gardens with
too much water, this is not only a waste of water, but
is not helpful for your plants. Ensure you water your
plants moderately for the healthiest garden possible.

When gardening, remember to take care of your

knees! Bending over for extended periods can be
harmful to your joints and muscles. Kneeling is
much easier on your body, and helps you tend to
your plants without hurting your back. For extra
comfort, purchase a knee pad for use as a cushion
between your knees and the ground.

Know your soil. Before you being planning and

planting your garden, be sure to test the pH of the
soil. The acidity or alkalinity of the soil has a huge
impact on the types of crops that can be successful
on the plot. Take readings from several different
areas of the garden as pH can differ from spot to
spot. Adjust the soil or your plants as necessary
based on what you find.

baskets are handy tools at harvest time. The laundry
basket can be used as a colander for your produce.
The basket won't be affected by the water and it will
drain right off as though it were poured into a large
sieve.
Treat your roses! To naturally remedy black spots on
roses in your organic garden, use milk! For some
unknown reason - using a 1:2 ratio mixture of milk
and water - has been shown to get rid of black spots!
Use a spray bottle to apply the mixture directly to
the leaves of the affected plant.

A natural, albeit somewhat tedious, way to keep

pests and fungus from destroying your organic fruit
crop is to use plastic zipper bags. When the fruits are
still young on the branches, place them in large
zipper bags secured at the top with staples. Cut off a
bottom corner to allow for adequate drainage.

Feeling in harmony with the earth is a benefit of

gardening as a hobby, and this holds especially true
when it comes to organic gardening. Organic
gardening is an excellent lesson in the plant life
cycle and how to get the most from the planting
process.

If you want to have an organic garden, you should

make sure you do not have any need for bug sprays.
Maintaining healthy soil will help immensely with
pest management. Healthy soil will help to produce
healthy plants. Healthy plants are better able to
withstand insect damage and disease.

organic and non-chemical protection against
common garden pests like aphids and grasshoppers
is the ideal solution to keep your garden alive and
well. Instead of using harmful chemical and caustic,
unnatural methods, opt for approaches like physical
removal of pests, erecting fences, nets, or protective
barriers, or botanical pesticides.
Avoid chemical fertilizers when gardening, replace
them with natural, organic mixtures like compost.
Chemical fertilizers will deposit toxins into the soil,
which can build up over time and even affect your
drinking water. Natural and organic mixtures are
safe and won't cause this toxic buildup.

Creating a great and healthy looking garden just

requires a little bit of knowledge and a lot of work.
The previously mentioned tips are just a small
segment of the plentiful information that is available
to you. By making a little extra effort and following
these tips, you can make a big difference in your
garden.
