He sighed often, When he went “oh-h-h,’fire gushed from his nose. Then. smoke filled the air. And it scared the people‘in the town below. One day, Elmer Lipp was ( hiking high in the mountain. Fire and smoke were coming from his mouth and nose. “What's wrong?” asked Elmer. “Can help you?” “I want to have friends” cried Dudley. “Lm so lonely. How can I make friends with the people in the town?” “Can you stop breathing fire and smoke?” asked Elmer. “Te scares everyone” “Maybe I could use my fire to help people,” Dudley said shyly. “I could light birthday candles. I could let kids toast marshmallows” “What a great idea!” said Elmer. “You could light fires in our fireplaces. Then we could stay warm and cozy all l winter long.” So Elmer and Dudley made a list of things Dudley could do. Elmer took it to the people in the town.
