• We will be using magazines to create woven baskets. We will begin by folding pages of magazines (do a electronic images, sketchbooks, or portfolios for the purposes of
demo or show video I made). self evaluations or exhibitions.
Day 2:
• Begin weaving the folded magazine pages (do a demo or show video I made).
• We will start with the bottom of the basket and work our way to the sides.
Day 3/4:
• These will be work days. When complete, we will do a gallery walk and look at everybody’s woven
baskets!
Differentiation:
• Not one basket will look the same due to the variety of colors in the magazine pages. If students want
to create a certain color scheme they are more than welcome to but are not required to.
• If students have trouble weaving, I will allow them to weave a basket that is smaller or I will have them
fold their magazine pages larger, to make the weave larger.
• For advanced students, I will show them a way to weave the sides as a continuous weave to challenge
themselves.
Assessment:
• To assess for this project, I will ensure each student has created a woven basket with a bottom and four
walls.
• We will have a gallery walk so that everyone can see what their classmates created.
Interdisciplinary Connections:
• Math
-There is a math connection to this because in the beginning as they are folding their magazines, they
must use a ruler to measure out their magazine pieces.
• Science
-There is a science connection to this because we will be discussing our environment and what it means
to be eco-friendly.
