Measurement Olympics Week One: Training!

The summer Olympics in Japan may have been postponed, but we’re
going to have our own Olympics at home. Let’s train like the athletes do for
the 2020 At-Home Measurement Olympics! This week we will review:

1. ESTIMATION
2. ACTUAL AMOUNT and
3. Finding the
DIFFERENCE between
the two

Family Ask: “What is estimation?​ ​What is an estimate?”


-A ​reasonable​ guess (a guess that makes sense) of a quantity of objects
-A reasonable guess of a measurement of distance, time, size, etc.
[Give examples from scenarios, like planning for a party or ordering
materials for a home improvement project]

PART 1:​ ​Quantity Estimates

How many jellybeans are in the picture?
