Research, read and study the life of Sir Cameron Mackintosh as the “King of Musicals”.

1. How essential is theater to his life?
-Sir Cameron Mackintosh is known to be the most successful, influential, and
powerful theatrical producer in the world by the New York Times. Theater is essential to
his life because being a theatrical producer was his childhood dream. When he was a
child, he was able to see his first stage musical, “Salad Days,” that made him decide that
he wanted to produce similar entertainments. He even dropped out London’s Central
School of Speech and Drama to start his first professional job as a chorus member and
assistant stage manager for a touring company of “Oliver!” Also, for nearly 50 years,
Cameron Mackintosh has been producing more musical that are popularly known in
history.
2. How does Sir Cameron Mackintosh communicate meaning through theater?
-Sir Cameron Mackintosh communicates meaning through theater by the
musical plays he produced. Each musical has its own story wherein there is a hidden
message that Cameron would like to convey. His shows such as Les Misérables, The
Phantom of the Opera, Mary Poppins, Oliver!, Miss Saigon, Cats, and Hamilton made
people to love and be amaze with theatrical shows. He communicated through theater
by the plot story of his shows that can inspire many people. His musical shows have
made the greatest stamps on the theatre entertainment industry that have come to
shape the scope of what we now view musical theatre.

3. How does he use line, color, value, shape, forms, and texture to express ideas and
feeling in theater? Cite examples or instances.
-Sir Cameron used art elements such as music, design, and stage presence of the
show to express ideas and feelings. He has the ability to transform musical theaters into
a global and high profitable brand. His musical such as The Phantom of the Opera, Les
Misérables are considered to be the three longest-running musicals of all time because
of the features that Cameron uses. His musicals are also known for their texture and
color. Texture is present because it is the way the musical conveys its feelings and
emotions. While color is represented by the reflection of light on the stage and
costumes worn by the characters.

4. In your opinion, what for him makes a good theater performance?


-In my opinon, Sir Cameron Mackintosh uses a unique story which makes a good
theater performance. He used his musicals to convey a message for people to
understand the concept of musical theaters. He also believed that music makes a good
theater performance. I agree that music also has an important role in theater
performances because when people started to like the music, they are able to
remember the story of the play. He also used enthusiasm to make the details of the play
visible. He made sure that every feature of his musicals will be appreciated by his
audiences.
