When determining the angle of tilt and pressure on soil of a pile foundation which is regarded as a
conditional massive foundation according to Art. 7.1 of SNiP II-B.5-67 and Appendix 22 of SN 200-62 [I],
one uses the magnitude of the moment M from the external loads at the level of the undersurface of the gril-
lage, which, as noted [2], is erroneous. The moment M l of the force acting on the undersurface of the foun-
dation (plane AD) can be considered equal to M only in the case of a low grillage in the absence o5 an exter-
nal horizontal load H (see Fig. i).
For foundations of bridge piers and in other cases where the pile grillage is subjected to the action
of a horizontal load the value of M l can be determined by the equation
M1 = 7~Pi.tvco~ y~, (1)
where Pi is the longitudinal force in the i-th pile; ti ~s the horizontal coordinate of its point relative to the
center of gravity of the conditional massive foundation in the plane of action of the forces; ~/i is the angle
of inclination to the vertical. Forces Pi are determined by calculation of the grillage for the effect of loads
N, H, M in conformity w'th the method in [3].
