This course will familiarise process, instrumentation and custody
transfer engineers with the procedures and practices involved in the choice of flowmetering systems and their associated supporting equipment. The course is based on a selection of content in regulations and international recognized standards.
It will give guidance on the optimum commercially available flowmeters
through a detailed comparison of their relative merits. Flowmeter calibration is crucial to these topics.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
Apply an in-depth knowledge to the topics of liquid and gas
flowmetering and custody measurement as well as to the fluid mechanics of pipe flows Assess flow measurement uncertainty in terms of the actual flowrate Distinguish between the different flowmeter types used in Custody Metering including delta p, Turbine Meters, ultrasonic and Coriolis mass flowmeters and to determine the optimum choice for a given application Understanding Gas & Liquid Dynamics and Flow Profiles Understand the various types of flow calibration, metering system and provers including static and dynamic measurement, meter proving, prover loop and custody transfer An overview of the computer systems in a fiscal oil and Gas metering station will be discussed also including the station and supervisory computer systems. Understand the rule of Secondary Measurements (Pressure & Temperature Instrumentation installation & configuration in metering station) Overview of the calculations that are carried out to find standard volumetric and mass flowrates from primary measurements. This includes using steel and liquid correction factors to correct for temperature and pressure changes, affecting both the measured volume and the density of the liquid. Discuss sampling & sample handling techniques and Laboratory analysis. In-line continuous analysis of the oil quality is also considered, including Gas Chromatography and other online analysis Instrument. Apply the various API, ISO & NORSOK standards applicable to custody measurement
