GIFTS-GIVE
(One of the Five Languages of Love)

These lessons helps me to know my Language of Love and among this five
language of love, I was struck by the Language of love, gifts because it reminds me of
my mother who taught me the importance of giving gifts to our loved ones and to those
in need.

When I was young, I never forget the generosity of my mother. They often gave
money and or foods to beggar everytime we passed by along the street going to the
church. When our relatives needs money or foods my mother always extent her hands
to help them despite of our financial constraints. I wander why she did this things to
them. Thus I ask her, “Why she loves to give money or something to beggars or
someone who are in need?” She said, this is her expression of loving Jesus Christ. She
added that even Jesus Christ He gave Himself for us to be saved. She also quoted a
bible verse, she said “It is better to give than to receive (Acts 20:35). These actions of
our mother gives us (her children) a huge impact that also encouraged us to give to
those in need.
As I grew up, I brought with me this attitude of giving which I’ve learned from my
mother that helps me to establish my love relationship towards my brothers and sisters
especially to those in need. In fact, I used to treat my loved ones or friends in the
restaurant or in the canteen for them to feel that I love them and I care for them. Same
with my brothers in our community, if I have money, I usually brought them in the fast
foods or somewhere that could take our snacks or meals together. That is how I
express my love to them.
As I continue my journey, I became more conscious to the needs of my brothers
and sister especially in my community. In Matthew 25:40, it says, “What did you do to
the least of my brethren you do it unto me”. This statements of Jesus gives me more
inspirations to help the members of the community especially those in need. That’s why,
as a response, I taught them different skills training for livelihood, such as; Food
Processing and Preservations, and others for them to have additional income.
These attitude of giving was developed within me because of my mother who
putting herself as good example for me to be learned. That is why I salute her for being
my mentor. Above all, I thank God for inspiring my mother and gave her courage to
impart her gift to me because through this I helped many people.
