TODDLER/TWO YEAR OLD EXPERIENCES

1. SENSORY (2 year olds)


OBJECTIVE: Students will be sitting on chairs around the sensory table and play with “magic
sand” they will be able to manipulate the sand in every way they want, they will also be able to
exercise their imaginations.
MATERIALS: flour and baby oil (optional: food coloring, plastic toys such as animals, blocks,
etc.)
SCAFFOLDING: students have been touching and manipulating items, this will give them the
chance to feel something difference and encourage a lot more imaginative play
FACILITATION: caregiver can sit next to the students and play with the animals, encouraging
even more imaginative play with the students
DAP: Page 66, “They also love books… textures to feel, holes to peek through or poke fingers
into, sounds to make, and actions to imitate.”

2. MOTOR (2 year olds)


OBJECTIVE: students will be given cardboard boxes, decorating items. They can decorate the
the boxes in any way they want. This will be their vehicle (airplane, car, train, etc). They can and
will get inside the cardboard box that has finally turned into their airplane, car, train, etc., and
move it with their hands and feet.
MATERIALS: cardboard boxes, decorating materials (paint, markers, crayons, stickers, colored
tapes, etc.)
SCAFFOLDING: students have been playing with toys such as cars, trains, playing the train
game (teacher is the leader, students will follow behind him/her cheering choo choos)
FACILITATION: teachers can help the student decorate and once they are done, the teacher can
carefully watch the student sit inside the cardboard box car and pretend like they are driving the
vehicle
DAP: “Excited by their new motor abilities, they plunge ahead full speed before figuring out
how to stop” page 66.
3. LANGUAGE (1 year olds)
OBJECTIVE: R is for Ribbons. Students will be learning about the letter r. They will be given a
piece of paper with the letter R drawn in it, and they will glue pieces of ribbons in the R shape.
MATERIALS: paper with the letter R printed on it, glue, lots of colorful ribbons
SCAFFOLDING: teacher will read a book about the letter R and say words that starts with the
letter R
FACILITATION: caregiver will cut pieces of ribbons, hand out the ribbons and the paper with
the letter r. The caregiver will then put glue all over the letter R on the paper and help students
put the ribbons inside the letter R
DAP: “As toddlers’ verbal skills expands, so does their ability to use objects, to put together a
series of actions in play, and to remember events for later reenactment” page 67.

4. HEALTH/NUTRITION (2 year olds)


OBJECTIVE: teacher will bring and slice fruits and vegetables, the teacher will ask the student
what kind of fruits and vegetables are in front of them and their color, she will give them a slice,
dip them in paint and stamp them on a piece of paper
MATERIALS: fruits, vegetables, paint, paper
SCAFFOLDING: students should be able to know their colors and food on the top of their head
FACILITATION: caregivers will ask what kind of fruits or vegetable is in front of them and the
color, watch them dip the fruit/vegetable in paint, make sure they do not eat the contaminated
food
DAP: “Clear rules and limits enable toddlers to learn to make goof decisions” page 69

5. SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL (2 year olds)


OBJECTIVE: students will be able to play with boats, fish, etc., on the water sensory table, they
will be able to communicate with each other (someone does not want to get wet, someone wants
a toy, etc.)
MATERIALS: water, water toys, water sensory table
SCAFFOLDING: students will be reading a book about boats and learn that they move in the
water
FACILITATION: caregivers will carefully watch the children so they would not hurt themselves
trying to play hard with the water, if a friend/student does not want to get wet, the teacher let the
student know that she can always use her words and say “I don’t want to get wet” to their friends
DAP: “They actively seek out their friends and especially enjoy imitating each other’s behavior
and engaging in group activities such as a simple game of follow the leader” page 67
