TEST FUNCTION
2. TEST FUNCTION
Types of Tests
There are two types of tests, virtual tests and target tests.
When the Test Function starts, it automatically selects the type of test according to the
attributes of the FCS project to which the FCS selected as the test target belongs.
Virtual Test
A virtual test is the test that is performed using an FCS simulator, instead of an actual FCS.
The FCS simulator runs on an HIS and simulates the functions and operations of an FCS.
If the attribute of the project to which the test target FCS belongs is the default project
(Example 1 below), or the attribute of the project to which the test target FCS belongs is the
user-defined project (Example 2 below), a virtual test starts.
To perform the virtual test of an FCS that belongs to the current project, create a copy of that
project in System View, and perform a virtual test using the copied project (user-defined
project).
The HIS running as a plant operating console should not be used for virtual test. If the HIS is
used for virtual test of a project, the project database of the HIS will be replaced by the data of
the virtual tested project, the data collection from the running plant will be interrupted and the
lost data of the following items are irrecoverable.
•Trend data
•Long-term archived data
•Closing data
•Logging data
For the following data items in the database, when the HIS is used for virtual test, the data
collected during the virtual test will be appended to the database and mixed with the original
data.
•Historical Messages

2. TEST FUNCTION
Target Test
Target test uses an actual FCS. When there are no I/O modules and I/O test devices, an FCS
input and output can be simulated by using the I/O Disconnect and Wiring Functions.
If the attribute of the project to which the test target FCS belongs is the current project, the
target test starts.
If the test target FCS is not offline-downloaded, it must be offline-downloaded to the target
FCS before the start of testing.

2. TEST FUNCTION
*1:Since APCS does not have process I/O and communication I/O for connection, so that the
“I/O Disconnection” task is not available.
*2: Since APCS does not have process I/O and communication I/O for connection, so that
wiring the I/O is not available.
Wiring function is not supported for GSGW.

*3:The I/O error test for APCS can be applied to global switches (%GS) only.
*4:Only KFCS2, KFCS and FFCS station has testing FOUNDATION fieldbus faceplate block
capability.

2. TEST FUNCTION
CENTUM VP engineering starts with a specification review prior to system installation, and
includes a variety of tasks such as designing, system generation, testing, starting up, the
addition and changing of functions, and maintenance (system revision).
Engineering Work
An overall engineering work flow is shown below:
Specification Review
Review the I/O list, process control methods and necessary hardware.
Basic Design
Using organized and structured windows to realize the desired control functions (regulatory
control, sequence control and unit supervision) and the operation and monitoring functions.
Detailed Design
Design detailed items (program configuration, creation of data list) for the regulatory control,
sequence control, unit supervision and the operation and monitoring windows according to
the basic design.
System Generation
Construct a system using various builders based on the basic design and detailed design.

2. TEST FUNCTION
Unit Test
Check the control loop operation as well as the operation and monitoring windows by using
the virtual test function.
Integration Test
Using the actual FCS, check the overall validity of functions and execution timings that were
checked individually through the unit test.
Start Up
Install and wire the target machine, carry out test operation and then normal operation.
Maintenance
Back up engineering data, inspect hardware, etc.
