Holy Week readings and activities

Tuesday:Teaching at the Temple

READING:
Luke 19:47-48
Every day Jesus taught in the Temple. The chief priests, the teachers of the Law, and the leaders of
the people wanted to kill him,  but they could not find a way to do it, because all the people kept
listening to him, not wanting to miss a single word.
Activity
Make a scroll to represent Jesus' teaching. Write on it the following scripture:
"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path." Psalm 119:105
If you want you could age your piece of paper with tea and a candle (you will definitely need adult
help for this - find out how to do it at https://www.wikihow.com/Age-Paper-Using-Tea).
Roll the scroll up, tie it with ribbon or string and place on your easter altar.

"Your word is a lamp to my

feet
and a light for my path."
Psalm 119:105

Reflection
People hung on Jesus' every word. He wasn't like the other Rabbis. He brought the scripture to life,
telling stories to illustrate what it meant, and performing miracles to show God's goodness and
power. He doesn't just speak the word of God. He is the word of God. Do we hang on Jesus' every
word? How can we pay more attention to Jesus teaching? How can we allow his example to make a
difference in our lives?

Prayer
Dear God,
Thank you for sending Jesus as your living word. Help us to understand your teaching through his
lived example. Help us to listen and look for the truth in his words and actions, and to put what we
learn into practice.
Through Jesus' holy name we pray,
Amen
