The Book Thief

The Book Thief is a drama film directed by Brian Percival, it is based on the novel of the
same name by Markus Zusak. This film was released in 2013 and it is starred by
Geoffrey Rush, Emily Watson and Sophie Nélisse. The film is set in Germany during the
Second World War (the forties).

The main characters are Liesel Meminger, Hans Hubermann and Rosa Hubermann. The
film is about a young girl who is adopted by a German family during the Nazi era. This
girl was not able to read or write when she arrived, and Hans (her adoptive father)
taught her. Then, she started reading every book she got. One night, a Jew called Max
goes to the Hubermann home, where he was sheltered for several weeks. Rudy, the
best friend of Liesel, realized that there was a person hidden in her home but he kept
her secret. Liesel borrowed lots of books from the Mayor’s library, which she read to
Max. Max became very ill, but he healed and he decided to leave the house because of
the great risk of being discovered and the terrible consequences for the Hubermanns.

The best of the film is that is focused on the humanity of some families during this
terrible war as well as its soundtrack, which is really awesome. The only weakness
point could be that some information from the book is missed in the film.

I strongly recommend this film because of its unforgettable soundtrack as well as its
wonderful plot.
