Classroom Implementation Ideas:

How to Differentiate Instruction in my Future Classroom:

Centers: By using a centers strategy, I will be able to differentiate materials so every child is
getting what they need, without having to wait for other students to catch up, or feel as though
they are falling behind. In order to do this, I will create enough centers for two children to be at
each station per day. I will then assign students to a different center each day. In the centers,
the two children will be doing the same activity, but have it tailored to their individual needs.
For example, if one student is working on the sight word “they” and his partner is working on
the sight word “what”, they will both complete the same activity, but have it tailored to the
words they are working on so they can improve their individual skills. Below are some ideas for
stations.
Leveled Reading Groups: By using leveled reading groups, I will ensure that each student is
reading at a level that they are currently working on. No student will be reading at a level that is
too easy or too difficult for them, ensuring that they are constantly being challenged and
learning as much as they can during the year. Leveled reading groups are also great to work
with each student individually, as it breaks up the class into small groups. Each student will get
the one-to-one focus needed to address their individual needs, and learn strategies to
overcome them.

This lesson would be used in a Kindergarten classroom for students reading on Level C.
Learning Menus: Learning menus are a great way to reach all different types of learners. This
way of assessment allows the student to choose from a list of tasks based on the way that they
learn best. It is a great way to incorporate a Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and reach the
affective, recognition and strategic brain networks of all of the different learners in the
classroom. This is also a great strategy to allow students to figure out how they learn the best,
and be able to apply it in the future of their learning.
