FRIENDSHIP OF TWO MEN

INTRODUCTION

Friendship is a mutual relationship between two or more people who get attached and
interacted in friendly manner. Friendship is what makes a person understand what loyalty and
trust is, which is hard to break, which we saw in the story by Hemingway’s novella ‘the old
man and the sea’. This story tells us about that age doesn’t matter to make a friend in life. It is
just your feelings, love and understanding for them and same for you from them. FRIEND
IN NEED THAN FRIENDS INDEED. Relationships are built on proper understanding and
respect and care with a proper bonding of people between them.

ANALYSIS

The friendship of Santiago and manolin is the essential part in the safe coming of Santiago to
home. The old man and the boy they were very close. Even when Mandolin’s father forbid
him to go to catch fish with old man Santiago as he was unlucky, still he use to came to him
to help him in old man’s house and never forget him. He boy use to help Santiago in physical
work which the old man can’t do by himself, even the old man Santiago’s confidence never
went away as he was having a friend to be with. The boy brought food for the old man for his
journey. Manolin never say no to the old man he always sees the old man Santiago as his
mentor and as a best friend. Boy always cared for the old man, when the old man Santiago
came from this heart whelming journey boy was too much worried about him and he was
very happy when he saw that the old man is resting on his bed. There was a bond between old
man Santiago and the boy manolin which was not like any normal friend who can leave, but a
friend who will always stays no matter what happens in life. The old man was also bond of
mentorship given by the old man to the boy by teaching him about fishing. They use t o love
each other company and always aspire for greater things in life.

CONCLUSION

The mutual understanding and friendship between Santiago and manolin gets more attention
than their work life. Friendship always depends on on persons trust love and respect, a
common understanding between two people is what always make a true friendship work. We
can see in the story ‘old man and the sea’ that they never lose hope on each other always
stayed together and trusted each other. Making a friend is easy but keep a friend is hard, Is
something what we can see by the friendship of the old man and the boy. We should always
surround ourselves with such people only and always trust them and be faithful to them.
Santiago was dependent on the boy manolin and the boy was dependent on the old man
Santiago.
