Dear students,

for the next two weeks we will be focusing on Crisis and Emergency Risk Communication - one of
the most crucial national security issues today. We will be focused on 3 skills: reading, listening
and writing in order to enhance our vocabulary and work on all of these vital skills.

PART I: PARTICIPATION IN THIS WEEK’S ONLINE CLASSES

You are required to go through the posted material: "Lesson 2_Communicating During Global
Emergencies Part 1” and the webinar “Crisis and Emergency Risk Communication_Webinar” (to
confirm your participation in this week’s online classes).

1. Quickly read the texts First Message in a Crisis and How Will People Judge Your Emergency
Messages and check whether the statements in Task 1 are true or false. If they are false provide
arguments why. (Task 1)
2. Complete the text with the appropriate words from the table (Task 2)

3. Watch and listen to the Part I of the webinar about Crisis and Emergency Risk
Communication and answer the questions (Task 3)

4. Watch and listen to the Part II of the webinar about Crisis and Emergency Risk
Communication and write a summary of the key recommendations (250 words; Arial 11, justified,
1.5 space) and choose 15 useful collocations and provide their Croatian translations (after the
summary).

Do not use the exact same wording in your summary or when answering questions as the
presenter or as your colleagues because such assignments will not be considered valid.
Also, if you just solve some of the tasks, and not all of them, such a handout will not be
accepted. This handout (sent by Thursday, March 26, 1600 hrs) confirms that you attended
online classes this week!

Please bear in mind that you can be absent from 3 classes and since we do not know what the
future holds and how long we will have online lessons, I kindly ask for your cooperation in these
challenging times.

Use some of the theoretical background from the Lesson 2 handout or

that if you just solve some of the tasks, and not all of them, such a handout will not
be accepted.
Kind regards,
