SITUATION 2: CONSULTING

We have to get the resources for going for a trip. Where we have some resources with us and
some resources are required too. Students are placed into networks. With goal of obtaining
certain key resources from their network as quickly as possible. We can communicate and
exchange resources with players we are connected to. It may be of 2,3,4, networks at a time.
As we find the resources from our networks, it became clear that certain players are in more
strategically advantageous positions than others. Learning through stimulation was a great
experience which we never had before. Before we started the stimulation, we were all
actually very tensed on how this is going to be. But actually, after started playing game it was
fun and so cool.
The situation was to provide companies with the apt candidates for various posts which
included QA specialists, software developers, operations analyst, financial analysts etc. The
simulation which took place was really nice. It was a good experience but I could not get all
the needs which I required. I was provided with two software developers and one delivery
specialist. My task was to get a QA specialists, an operations analyst and a financial analyst. I
was connected to three users and I told them the resources which I have with me. Two among
them responded positively and helped me to get two of my needs which was something
which worked really well. One thing which did not work was my third user who did not even
respond to the messages which I had sent. After sometimes he also responded for my
messages, but unfortunately, he cannot help me since he don’t have the thing which I asked
for. He asked me for help I had provided him with a need which I already had with me. I
could able to satisfy the needs of some of them but can’t fulfil my needs except one.
For me the functioning becomes faster when the response which we receive from the people
is positive rather than the number of users. If we are connected to many people and none of
them is responding then the connections are of no use or if the person connected is not so co-
operative.
Something that sounds similar to real life is that, sometimes people whom we don’t know
comes to our rescue. This was what happened in the simulation procedure. I chatted with
people who are unfamiliar to me but they helped me in finding my needs. Stimulation teaches
concepts including network structures and properties, power and influence, and importance of
networking. Stimulation helps in our real-life dealings. And in our real life also we learn
from our experiences.
Simulation is different from our real life. In real life most of the cases we know the
people in our network and can do the dealings according to it. Which help to obtain the goal
more effectively. I would have played more effectively by acquiring the resources faster. By
communicating with the network more effectively. I also want to help my other networks to
get their needed resources. Even though I arranged for some people, If I communicated more
effectively, I may be able to help my more networks.
If I knew the people before to whom I was connected with then I think I would have
been able to convince them in helping me. As I’m able to know the persons who are my
classmates and approach them with their characters. It may also be more helpful, so that I can
grab the resources more easily.
From the simulation procedure I learnt that we do not require large network of
connection instead we need one who had mind to support us. It is actually a platform where
we could able to showcase our negotiation capability and can present ourselves as a marketer.
We could a clear idea about networking and the importance of approaching a new person etc.
Stimulation helps to demonstrate how the properties of one’s network affect one’s ability to
drive benefits from it. Change perceptions of networking as selfish, opportunistic, or
insincere by recognizing its benefits.
