Use a spreadsheet program to calculate the engineering stress and strain from the

load and extensometer data, respectively. Plot the stress-strain curve for all values
of stress and strain. (Note: the extensometer readings after the extensometer is
removed from the specimen are meaningless. Do not plot this data as part of
your stress-strain curve.)

Draw a best fit line through the data points. Do not use a connect the points
option in your spreadsheet program. Follow the instructions in the laboratory
manual for creating graphs. Determine the ultimate stress and label this point on the
graph.

Create another graph by “zooming in” on the initial portion of the stress-strain
curve. Draw a best fit-line through the data points. Do not use a connect-the-
points option in your spreadsheet program. From this graph, determine the
modulus of elasticity and the 0.2% offset yield stress. Label these items on the
graph. Follow the instructions in the laboratory manual for creating graphs.

Determine the secant modulus and tangent modulus for a stress level mid-way
between the yield stress and the ultimate stress.
