    Affirmative:

    PAST
    I / HE / SHE / IT + WAS + VERB (ING)

     He was sweeping the floor while she was doing the washing-up.

    YOU / WE / THEY + WERE + VERB (ING)

     They were doing the homework at 5 o’clock.


     We were watching a movie.

    Negative:

    I / HE / SHE / IT + WASN’T + VERB (ING)

     He wasN’T sweeping the floor while she wasN’T doing the washing-up.

    YOU / WE / THEY + WEREN’T + VERB (ING)

     They wereN’T doing the homework at 5 o’clock.


     We wereN’T watching a movie.

    Questions:

    WAS I / he / she /it + VERB (ING) …?

     WAS she doing her homework?


    Yes, she was. / No, she wasn’t.

    WERE you / we / they + VERB (ING) …?

     WERE they playing football in the park?


    Yes, they were. / No, they weren’t.
