Philosophy
The
of Les Mills Born to Move TM
2. welcome circle
Introduce yourself, share a story, ask how they can remain safe and
agree on safety conditions, ask them who is leading the class today.
4. relaxation
2-5mins where the children can lie down silently to rest and breathe.
5. say goodbye
Stand by the door and say goodbye to each child.
Energy
Understand how to connect energetically with different ages and adjust your vibe to
the needs of the children.
Sparkle
You are a firework. Be switched on for the entire experience from the time the first
child enters the room until the very last child leaves. Shine bright.
LEAD
Call it what it is
Walk, jump, run, bounce, kick, step, punch & hop. Call moves by describing what
they are. Use simple counts to coach the rhythm: 3,2,1 jump or step, step, step, jump.
Optional: Give one technical or focus point per move or sequence.
Child-Centred
time" or recal your focus point. Focus on the feel of the movement "Can you feel
it in your legs?".
play
Coaching Sing, create a theme, use visualisation and imagery, set a personal challenge,
encourage participation, create confidence "You've got this!", "You can't get this
wrong". Be Playful, laugh, smile, play tricks. Keep all your messages about physical
activity positive. Praise involvement and have FUN!
watch
Look at the children all the time to maintain their attention. SMILE. Watch and
INTERACT
notice what’s going on for the children. Understand how to read their signals.
Look for signs of boredom and disengagement so you can take action.
adapt
Keep the class dynamic and enjoyable for every child. Act quickly to maintain
energy and engagment. For the younger classes you can go back to the
Child-Centred
start of the track or excite them by telling them what is coming next. For the
older clasees you can play a game, change the use of the room or move to
the next track.
Learning Respond
Nip any potential issues in the bud by quickly responding to what you see
happening in the room. You need to blow out the match, not fight with fire! Show
you are in charge, and follow-up on the boundaries you have set so children
know that you respect their learning and desire to have fun. Redirect or divert
children who are not engaged.

This track uses the whole room through a variety of movements from one side/corner to the
other. Have the children do this exercise in pairs (or in 3s or 4s) – and while you show them
the moves first, the children do this on their own! Remember to wait until every child has
completed one round before introducing the next movement. After a few rounds reverse the
group so the children at the back become the ‘leaders’.

Notes
For this track you don’t have to use the whole song! Simply let the children dance around
the room with scarves and then pause the music and give them an instruction (i.e.
‘Statues’).
e.g.:
• Sit on the floor
• Stand on one leg
• Sleep on your stomach
Teaching Notes
Track purpose
Find ‘statues that might challenge
balance, core, or creativity. Let the
children dance freely in the studio (and
if they start running around so pause
pause music more often!)
U se of room
Get the kids to use the entire room –
give them space!
