Masjid Saka Tunggal lies in the south of the alley, which leads into the Taman
Sari Pasanggrahani (a rest house). This mosque is called Saka Tunggal because of its
single pillar. Unlike other Javanese traditional building, the pillar of this mosque is
supported by a bar of stone called Umpak. It is interesting to know that above umpak
was once used in the palace of the Mataram Kingdom in the Islamic period or in the
period the Sultan Agung. This mosque is still in use.
Masjid Agung (the grand Mosque) lies on the western side of the North Square.
It is a place for praying, as well as for holding rituals and other religious ceremonies
like the Garebeg and the Sekaten. Those two ceremonies are held every year to
celebrate the Islamic Holy Days. This mosque thus provides the Kraton with the
space for side religious activities and it was placed in front of the palace or on the
western of North Square. This grand mosque, with its Javanese architecture, has a
roof model which is called ‘tajug’. Such a model was especially used for religious
buildings. This traditional mosque with its architecture thus becomes the most
interesting part of the building.

Rice, plant that produces an edible grain; the name is also used for the grain itself.
Rice is the primary food for half the people in the world. In many regions it is eaten with
every meal and provides more calories than any other single food. Rice is a nutritious food,
providing about 90 percent of calories from carbohydrates and as much as 13 percent of
calories from protein.
Of the 20 known species of rice, only two are cultivated; Asian rice and African rice.
Asian rice, if managed with modern techniques such as fertilizers, irrigation, and chemical
pesticides, produces significantly more grain per plant than African rice, and for this reason
is the preferred type in the majority of rice-growing countries. African rice, however, is more
productive than Asian rice in traditional farming systems.
A rice plant, a type of grass, has narrow, tapered leaves and grows from about 60 to
180 cm (about 2 to 6 ft) tall. Several flower stalks emerge from the plant, and in most
varieties, a loose cluster of branching stems, called a panicle, radiates from the top of each
stalk with small green flowers hanging from each stem. When the grain has developed, the
panicle droops under the weight of the ripened kernels. Depending on the variety, one panicle
provides about two handfuls of rice.
Depending on the rice variety and the climate, rice grains are ready for harvest in
three to six months. In developing countries, farmers harvest rice with sickles or knives, tie it
in bundles, and let it dry in the field. They then remove the grain from the plant, a process
called threshing, by hitting the plant against a slatted screen or walking animals over it.
Farmers in industrialized countries use combines, which are machines that move through
fields and harvest, thresh, and clean the grains. The grain is then dried in sheds with heated
air.

A Rocket Engine
A rocket engine is an impressive symbol of the new space age. But impressive
and complex as it may appear, the rocket which was invented in China over 800 years
ago, is a relativelysimple device.
Fuel which is burned in the rocket engine changes into gas. The hot gas must
escape, but it can do so only through an opening that faces backward. As the gas is
injected with great force, it pushes the rocket in the opposite direction.
Rockets are now being made that are powerful enough to shoot a man beyond
the
Earth’sgravitational pull. In such a rocket a man could be sent into space
accurately to arrive at the moon. With supplies of air and food, he could live on the
moon for weeks or over months.

I have no idea how old I was, probably about 10. But I went swimming with
some friends. They gave me a locker key, so I got changed, put my clothes in the
locker, locked it, put the keyon your wrist and went swimming.
Anyways, after we got out I noticed that my locker key was no longer on my
wrist. So I got back in the pool and look for it but I couldn't find it!
I told one of the pool people about it and he went and got a massive bunch of
keys. He asked me which number my locker was. I was sure it was 55. Turns out he
didn't have a spare key for 55. So he gets a crowbar and forces the locker open..... it
wasn't my locker.
Now that was an awkward moment!
All this took about an hour! So I put on my goggles back on and looked for my
key again. It was in the deep end and it wasn't number 55, it was 70 !
Haven't been back there since then!
