Directions: Provide all the necessary solutions per problem. COMPUTERIZE YOUR SOLUTIONS. Indicate
assumptions, if any. In order to get a grade of 1.0, you have to get at least 2 correct problems. No partial
points. Wrong answer, no point. One (1) point per problem. Send your answers via email in PDF file.

1. Solve the improper integral

𝑖𝑛𝑓
1
𝑓 (𝑥 ) = ∫ 1 𝑑𝑥
1 𝑥2 +1

2. An inverted conical tank with a height of 10 m and base diameter of 20 m contains liquid (density
= 1,200 kpcm). The height of the liquid is 5 m. How much work is involved in pumping all the liquid
out the top of the tank?

3. The work done by an ideal gas expanding in a cylinder at reversible isothermal conditions is given
by the integration formula;

𝑉𝑓
𝑑𝑊 = ∫ −𝑃𝑑𝑉
𝑉𝑖

For n moles of gas, the ideal gas equation can be used to model at constant temperature and
amount of moles.

𝑃𝑉 = 𝑛𝑅𝑇

Derive the equation used to determine the maximum reversible isothermal work done.
