 Rhythm Sheets

Lesson Procedures:
 Welcome!
 Distribute percussion- explain how to rotate
 Introduce:
-Ta, ti-ti, ti-ka-ti-ka – where to hit on drum
-Rests
-Time signature
 Teach “If I Had the Wings of a Dove”- heartbeat rhythm with embellishments
 Distribute rhythm sheets – practice individually or in pairs through the sheet
 Drum circle through all the rhythms, rotating percussion
 Come up with your own rhythm!
-Perform rhythms for class

 Rhythm Sheets, Song Sheets

Lesson Procedures:
 Distribute percussion – first come first serve
 Review notation, rests, time signature
 Review Heartbeat rhythm – Nyabinghi
-Have student notate it on the board
 Review “If I Had the Wings of a Dove”- heartbeat rhythm with embellishments
 Drum circle through all the rhythms on rhythm sheet
 Play VIDEOS – identify Nyabinghi rhythm
 Rhythm examples on the board – perform as 4 bar phrase
 Write out own 4 measure rhythm on staff paper
